Got the BBC 454 fitted today.
I finally got around to putting in the 454 today, wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. Had to move all the engine and transfer/transmission mounts forward one inch. Of course drilling 36 holes is not a whole lot of fun, but it had to be done.
Also had to cut the firewall on the drivers side to clear the valve covers, just about a half an inch. The engine I used for setting everything is still in need of an overhaul, Smokes like hell. Think I'll run a set of Hooker shorty competition headers, looks like they will be the least trouble to plumb up. Anyways here's some pics. |

It takes me forever to rebuild an engine I like to balance all rotating pieces and do the usual cleaning and setting clearances. Do everything right upfront and there will be no surprises down the road. My dad always said "Do it right the first time, and you won't have to do it the the second time. Gotta go, beer thirty! |

You did a good job - I can't even make out the area you had to cut on the driver's side firewall.

Re: Got the BBC 454 fitted today.
Can you even fit headers in with a big block? Does anybody have any pics of big blocks with headers?

Re: Got the BBC 454 fitted today.
Hope you had a nice one too. We went to Plymouth, Michigan to spend the new year with Peggy's (my other half) half sister. Had a blast with all them Yankees. Be glad to see some more progress pics of your project.

We ended up in Niagra Falls, NY (spelling, guess I should have read the signs) Pretty cool, first time I saw it at night and from the Canadian side. My youngest son bought his first house up in that area, so we went up to look at it. Big garage, smart man!!! Project went slow, although my other half gave me some great gifts for the truck: 5 point harness, '69-'72 tow hooks, new window regulators, and 35"s Found a new hole in the 'B' post, so I'll be doing that as I do the floorboards, I'll post up some pics. Your gaining on me, so I better work nights to stay in front of you!! Your truck looks really cool with that monster motor in there. Sorry for the rambling, dam yankees... J.
