HELP 305 not running good
hey guys, i cant get my 67 k10 to run worth a crap, just bought the truck. its got a 305 sbc. ive put 3 different quadrajunk carbs on it. and done different timing along with dizzy cap and wires. it runs at idle pops out of the pass. exhaust pipe. warms up and goes away. going down the road it runs terrible. wont rev up etc.. but w/o a load on it it revs good. what could it be? im about ready to put a differnt engine in the thing

Re: HELP 305 not running good
Sounds like timing and/or vac leaks to me.

Re: HELP 305 not running good
Stupid question: what kind of plugs do you have in it, and are they pretty new?
Not stupid question: What type of distributor do you have? HEI?

Re: HELP 305 not running good
Depending on the age of the 305, and the cam it has, I believe stock specs for a 305 were 8 degrees BTDC at idle, about 600 RPM with an automatic. Make sure your vacuum advance on the distributor is working right, make sure the mechanical advance springs inside the distributor are working right. What do you have your plugs gapped at?
If the engine's not knocking or blowing oil, it's still good! Especially if you're getting 125 psi on each cylinder! Don't change a good engine.

Re: HELP 305 not running good
Check and see if you have your dist vacuum advance running to a metered port like on the carb. Not straight to the manifold.
