Re: ebrake cables with 700R4

I can't imagine a trans swap would make any difference in e-brake cable length?

Re: ebrake cables with 700R4

Depends on what kinda trans you're swappin

I am gonna probably need to find a diff't e-brake cable for the truck soon, something that doesn't criss-cross

Re: ebrake cables with 700R4

This is a good question. One of the things I would like to do to my truck is get the E-brake working again (PO hacked and cut the crap out of it) So I don't know what goes where. Truck was originally a I6 3spd manual... if I use the same set-up as stock will it interfere with my 700R4? (I have a 67 with the handbrake that pinches the skin on your hand if your not careful! )

Re: ebrake cables with 700R4

I might have an eBrake cable for ya, bud. At least, if you still haven't got it figured out.

Well, I'm going to bump this one again!

I'm still wondering - has anyone ever seen a 67-68 (or later) eBrake setup that DOES NOT criss-cross under the body in an "X-shape" like the stock non-pedal (handle e-brake) does?

If so, how was it done? I'd like to keep my e-brake handle, because I really like it! But the brake cable setup is rubbing my tranny tailshaft and crossmember, taking the powdercoat and paint right off 'em. Pic of that:

Re: ebrake cables with 700R4

In looking at this, I suppose I could possibly route the e-brake cable through the hole in the tailshaft - it looks almost like it already is in this picture That would keep it off the crossmember....but then it would probably interfere with my exhaust. So, still curious to see some feedback.

I have a stock 1971 brake setup with a 700-R4 trans and have no problems.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

69-72 crosses the same way. I'm running the 4L60E in a Suburban and Crewcab and have no clearance issues.

Forgot to add, LOKAR sell a real nice setup that will allow you to do away with the metal rods.

Is it designed for our trucks?

It's a universal kit that's easy to install. I used one on my 48.

Re: ebrake cables with 700R4

This seems to be what Lokar recommends for a rear drum truck like the 67-72 pickups:

Do these look the same as what you used, Rob?
