283
I have a 283 I want to run duel exhaust on .I talked to a guy at Flowmaster that said 2.25 pipes is all I need. 3 inch is to big for my Horse power.Does this sound wright ? And could I benefit from a X pipe? Thanks

Re: 283
ya, that's right. 3in would be way to big. 2.25 would be plenty big and an x pipe is always a good idea. every engine will benefit from an x. hope this helps

Re: 283
I think the guy was right on the pipe size and an x-pipe will help some on the low end torque

Re: 283
Do you know where to locate your X or H pipe?

Re: 283
Id Suggest 2 1/2 It would be plenty for this motor and if you ever wanted to upgrade to a 350 or such it would be plenty for the future.

Re: 283
Well here goes, it's another one of those exhaust size debates. Many differing opinions of what diameter for a particular size engine.
In increasing the pipe diameter you will reach a point where exhaust scavenging falls off and can hurt the performance rather than help. Keeping up good flow helps low end torque. I think on a stock 283 anything more than 2" duals is overkill. It will make more noise but it may not make any more power from it. I know someone will chime in here with the correct formula to determine the necessary exhaust size and configuration. It's ok. I've got my flame retardent underwear on.. ![]()

Re: 283
What about X pipe and It's location. Any thoughts in front of muffler I would think.
