Eddelbrock 350 Questions
I have the Eddelbrock 350 with 290hp. I am using the QuadraJet Carb. I have stock exhaust manifolds and two Flowmaster exhuasts.
The truck is a C-20. My gearingis 4.11 I believe or whatever stock was for 1972. What are somethings I can do to make this truck a little faster? I have a Turbo 350 automatic trans. Maybe a rough estimate on cost for each item if someone else was doing it. I'm just looking for some more ooomph out of it. Thanks guys, Chad |

Re: Eddelbrock 350 Questions
What intake are you running? Edlebrock make a few good intakes that can be purchased second hand between $70-150, add the cost of gaskets and if you do the work yourself it's under 200 easy. Whatever your project is member of this board can talk you through it, save your money on labor and buy more parts.

Re: Eddelbrock 350 Questions
Get a C-10 ShortBed!
You want to go faster on the highway? in town? what is slow about it now? can't keep up with traffic? In all seriousness a C-20 wasn't really designed to go fast. It is heavy and getting it motivated will take some effort. the 4:11 gears will get you around town good, and help you off the line with that big heavy truck, but on the highway they will limit you in the "speed" department.

If you already have a Edlebrock intake on there it should be a 21XX, Like a 2101. Look on the back side upper manifold deck between the carb & Dizzy for rasied numbers. Your tire size and gear ratio play a big part in you top end speed. Do you still have the glove box sheet? It may tell you on there what rear end you have. Other considerations are: age/condition of the wheel bearings and brakes that drag. |

Re: Eddelbrock 350 Questions
When I am on the freeway I am at 3,0000 rpm's going 65mph.
So if I change the intake and carb and put headers on is that going to make any difference in the around town acceleration? Chad |

you really need the right combination to "go fast" the 290 horse should be plenty - stock manifolds flow pretty good as they are the Ram-Horn type. I would stick with them as headers require more "maintenance" quadrajets are good carbs - maybe it just needs to be tuned like I said you fighting against the weight of the truck

Re: Eddelbrock 350 Questions
Bummer. I wish I would have done a little more research before getting it. I needed a truck though. I guess I can make it look nice and just have a nice looking heavy work truck.
How about changing the gearing for more friendly freeway trips? Is this something that is more expensive than the better fwy driving? I think I would get better gas mileage running in the 2k range instead of the low 3k now. When the carb was adjusted wrong it had more power off the line, but the mileage really sucked. I guess I am stuck with it now though. Thanks, Chad |

Re: Eddelbrock 350 Questions
Edit: I just saw the pictures of the truck that you posted from E-bay. If that is the same truck then the intake is the Edlebrock "Performer" which is a good intake and the carb is the "Q-jet"
do some minor work to it and then sell it and buy what you want. You can change the gears in the rear for better freeway performance, not sure as to what it really costs to have it done. Gear sets are usually around $140-$300 depending on your rear and what type of gears you buy. Then the kit to install them (new bearings and seals etc.) is around $100 If you don't know how to set up rear end gears you'll have to pay someone to do that as well. If it was mine I would just get it running good. If you don't want a work truck and would rather have a hot rod - then your best bet is to get a short wheel base 1/2t truck. Buy the way - got any pictures of your ride?? (we like pictures around here)

Re: Eddelbrock 350 Questions
Yeah thats the one. I paid $6,000 for it. It really doesn't need anything except tires and wheels and the color sanding. Everything is new and been replaced. The paint is very good. I drive it a lot for work now and don't have any problems. I was going to stain the bed since it seems to be time for it.
The motor has about 500 miles on it as does all the new stuff. I put it in my local recycler for the fun of it. We'll see what happens. Probably not worth fixxing up the engine with polished stuff? Thanks for your input, Chad |
