Crappy video of my motor

I took a video of my truck running the other day, still am not at the point of driving it yet. It needs to have the timing set really bad. Sound isnt that great and its dies when it runs out of gas. But it sounds pretty good in person through the open headers

Re: Crappy video of my motor

sounds pretty darn healty, I like the open headers, sounds like a dragster. I'm glad that camera strap didn't swing down & get caught in a belt/fan

Thanks. Yeah, that camera has since been run over and crushed, I have pretty bad luck with digital cameras.
Im not sure how much of the sound is the timing being off or my cam...

Re: Crappy video of my motor

that's a good all around street cam. Open Headers usually make a Cam sound bigger than it really is.

quick question though - is that the first time you started the motor??

i.e.(did you "break-in" the cam?)

My thoughts too, hard to hear any problems in a new motor with open headers, and if that is a new cam ???

It is a new cam. I didnt build this engine, I had a shop do it b/c I dont have near the experience/knowledge yet to do so. They also ran it on the dyno so I assume they did "break-in" the cam.

Thanks!

Re: Crappy video of my motor

Interesting...I got the SUM-K1102 with the same lift and duration because it was a mild cam! I noticed that your advertised duration is higher however. Sounds great but I am curious about that 1500+ rpm, 20 minute, break-in too? BTW...beautiful engine!

Sounds good, theres nothin better than open headers. My favorite part is the backfire through the air cleaner....

Re: Crappy video of my motor

when i put my Holley on it backfired out the top, thankfully I didn't have a lceaner on yet since it looked like a dragon throwing fire! Didn't blow the carb but scared the poop outta me....ran fine after dialing in the timing...

Re: Crappy video of my motor

Ya, backfiring through the carb gets interesting. When i first put my double pumper on my 383 i went to start it and it fired right up. As i sat in the truck and listened to it, the fuel line wasn't tight and was puking gas all over the intake. I finally went up and checked it out, seeing this i shut it off immediately. I went to start it again and for some reason it backfired through the carb and caught all the spilt gas in the intake on fire. Needless to say it scared the poo out of me.
