Question.....Brake boosters

Does anyone know how to get the rod out of the rear of the vacuum booster?

I bought one at a swap meet and the rod needs to be changed to the factory piece.

Is it possible without too much trouble and/or special tools???

Re: Question.....Brake boosters

Post a pic of what you have, I never tried pulling the rod out of the firewall side.

Re: Question.....Brake boosters

OK....went and took a quick pic.

Rod on the left needs to be on the right booster.

If it's too big a hassle, I'll just get a new one from NAPA, but I got a great deal on this with a CPP master cylinder up at Hot August Nights this year that the guy swore it would fit (imagine that). It''s been such a long time since I seen mine (compliments of a 10 year restoration) that I took his word for it.

Thanks for whatever info anyone has!

Re: Question.....Brake boosters

Yeah, it looks like they will split and I even tried it on the left one and couldn't get it to budge. Also kinda difficult to figure how to hold it while I try to not beat the crap out of it!!

Re: Question.....Brake boosters

You could cut and weld the end you need on the new booster. Just make sure you have a good weld.

Re: Question.....Brake boosters

I think it is connected to the diaphragm on the inside. I'm not 100% sure on this, but I don't think the rod can come out without disassembling the entire booster.

You could cut the old rod off, take it to a machine shop and have them thread the cut end, then use a barrel nut to connect the two.

Just an idea ...
