Question Installing a new rubber grommet

I need to install a new 2" rubber fuel neck grommet on my 67 stepside. Is there any easy way to get this done short of pulling the fuel tank?

Re: Installing a new rubber grommet

heat it up in boiling water and use liquid dishsoap to lubricate it

A little lithium grease helps too.

Re: Installing a new rubber grommet

Sylglide is made for lubricating rubber. It doesn't dry out as quickly as dish soap, in my experience. I haven't replaced the fuel neck grommet, but it's been good stuff in other installs.

I used a hard plastic scraper to help push the lip into the hole in the body, wood would probably work too. Plastic won't scratch the paint if (i.e., WHEN) you go OOPS and slip a bit and hit the paint!

Re: Installing a new rubber grommet

Thanks All. The boiling water, soap and a plastic putty knife did the trick.

Now on to the next problem putting my truck back together faces me with!
