For those that have the fuel cell in the rear of the truck what are you using for your vent setup?

I put an RCI 20 gal. fuel cell in the bed of my truck and ran the vent line out the bottom of the bed. One word of caution though. When you run your vent you have to put a couple of loops in the vent line above the top of the cell or it will siphon gas right out of the cell. I didnt do that until this last week when I filled the tank for the trip home from the woods. I was towing my 25' travel trailer and when I started walking back to the truck I saw about 3 gallons of gas running out of the vent line onto my hot mufflers!

When I got home I put the coils in the vent line per the cell tech guys.

Gator, what kind of "coils do you mean? I just ran the vent line on mine straight out the back of the tank.

Hey Shifty, I brought the vent hose out of the top of the cell and just made two circles in it before I ran it down to the bed floor. I have it ty-wrapped together to make it neat and hold the circles. The tech guys at Summit said it would prevent it from making a siphon action. I filled the tank up a couple of dozen times before this happened but you only need that to happen to you once in a lifetime!! The circles need to be on top of the tank or above the height of the top of the tank. Im gonna fill mine up again when the truck is cold and see if it works. (left over Hurrricane gas supply)

I ran the vent hose from my cell up into the LH rear fender tub.....if it causes problems, I just guess I will have to do a good old 60's FIRE burnout!

Sorry I didn't get back sooner. Busy day. I'll take a pic and post it monday a. m. I just filled the cell slam to the top and no siphon action yet.

i would think the loops should be standing up not laying down like that// at least thats the way i've always seen them

on a well made fuel cell the vent fitting shouldn't have a pickup tube going to the bottom of the tank allowing siphoning an easy way is to just cutoff the pickup tube flush to the top of the fuelcell siphon problem solved

Yea man! those old dudes did FIRE burnies on the strip (gasoline powered)

Its kinda sorta one of them deals that you thought your brother was "freakin nuts" ......till you saw a good fire "burnie"

1969 , put this old man @ 12 yrs old, & the 1st time out to Cordova drag strip. I didnt see the crazy chit from the late 50's- early 60's....but those cars were still a FLAT AZZ CRAZY RIDE! Suspension wasnt what it is today, & where they went was not always what they planned! (yikes). It was fun to watch tho.....

This is an RCI cell and I don't think the vent tube goes but a couple of inches down into the cell. But thats enough to siphon out a good supply of gas for a major fire. I think you are right about the loops being vertical. I'm gonna re-do it.

heres mine it stops the gas smell in the garage..these fuel cells seem to give off a lot of gas smell...

close it when not in use

well i guess you can't see it that great..but i have a valve on the vent.
also have a check valve inline..only vapor escape no liquid
