Yea, mine does the same thing? Could it be the voltage regulator?

Re: Dim @ Idle ?

Mine do the same thing. I always attributed it to just being an old vehicle and having a weaker alternator and no computer telling my truck what to do.

Mine do it as well and so do my headlights.

Re: Dim @ Idle ?

It's fairly common on older vehicles. The draw of the electrical system is usually enough to draw down the system at idle.Probably the headlights do the same thing. That is why there is a FAQ on upgrading the headlights using a relay.

Okay randy randy, send me a link to this alternator. electronic ignition just sounds too complicated but that alternator sounds interesting

Re: Dim @ Idle ?

Even after the upgrade, you'll still have it a little, but not as bad.

Re: Dim @ Idle ?

If you're going to do the upgrade go straight to the CS130 alternator from a gm car or truck from the mid 90's.I did mine that way and dont have any dimming at all.The Cadillac and the buick park ave. have 140 amp alternators! There is a link but I cant think of it right now,It may be MAD electric or search the threads. You wont be sorry. Also what seems to complicated on electronic ignition? is it HEI?
