Backspacing 20" Wheels

Found some 20's I can stand. Similar to what Dave johnson has on his Black Jimmy. They come with 5" Back Spacing. Will the extra rim size help the clearance issue? Can get them for a steal, just not close enough to check for fit.

Depends on the tire size

Might be, how much lift do you have again?

Re: Backspacing 20" Wheels

ok.... here goes:

Truck is supposed to have a 4" lift. The distance from the factory bumb stop and the spring retainer on the front axle is > 5".

Existing setup is 285/r70/16 on what appears to be 16"x8" with 4" back spacing

The only thing close to the wheel is the tie rod end and it is CLOSE, but it would be 3 or more inches inside a 20" rim and the distance should remain constant unless catastrophic failure were to occur.

Re: Backspacing 20" Wheels

Sounds like it will work, can you test fit them before you buy em?

I would not even try 5 inches. You couldn't do a u-turn in a mall parking lot.

Re: Backspacing 20" Wheels

The back space issue comes from interferance with the ball joint, but he is talking 20's so it will place the tire/wheel far from the tierod. Most of these trucks like 3.5-4" of backspace, if nothing else steal em on ebay, try em and if they do not fit re-ebay them or just get a 1" spacer to put the wheel at 4" of backspace. Billet spacers are way strong and an inch is not an issue (2" and up I'd be concerned) Good Luck!!
