3/2 setup on a 250

Just wondering what would you gain by a 3/2 setup on a 250 6 cyl. (1970)Where would you find one and what kind of performance would it have. Just about decided to keep my 6 and not try the 350 swap. Just curious. Looked in the latest summit catalog and didnt see one. I did see one at the latest swap meet in East Texas but didnt ask questions. Thanks Ben

Three deuces is a lot of carb for the street. You'll need a lot more cam, headers and a good port job on the head. Before you do anything I would recommend getting a copy of Santucci's power manual. He goes into a lot of good details on the 250. Another good source is Tom Langdon at Stovebolt Engine. Call him and be ready, he can tell you a lot. Very opinionated, but there's always good reasoning behind his opinions.

One problem with the 3x2 setup is firewall clearance. I've never seen one on this series, so I'm not sure what is needed.

All it says is it's an Offenhauser set up. It looks to me like the front and rear carbs are not hooked up. No gas line going to them. Not sure about the linkage. I'll bet if you do some net surfing for 6 cylinder engine parts suppliers you'll come up with a number of options.
One of our members ( I believe it is N2Billet ) just over the past year built up a 67 or 68 with the 6 cyl and painted it up and added some billet parts to make the stock engine look great. Single carb though.

I don't think that they make a 3x2 intake for 194-292 applications. Offy still makes a 3x1 set up for 3 1bbls. It might be kinda hard to set up for street though. You would probably be better off with a single 4bbl

Why not drop a 4 brl and headers on the inliner? Did that on my last project and I am very happy with it. Not to mention its different............Pop the hood and alot of people ask, "I never seen that before"

It's a whole bunch cheaper. You can easily spend more on manifolds, carbs and exhaust for a six than for an entire sbc of equivalent performance. But there is something called dare to be different.

Here are a couple of 250's. One in a 37 pickup with a 3x2 sidedraft setup. The other is a 63 Nova with a pair of Holley quads. Both setups available from Clifford.

Another cool option I have seen is the 6 in the 50 "burb belonging to the pres or one of the officers of the "Georgia Street Rod Association".It regularly tows a trailer to all kinds of street rod functions and carries AC and passengers in comfort.It has a single 4 BBL on an old Offy(I Believe) It must work well although I think he has to change blower belts ocassionally.I had pics til my last comp crashed. I think it's a mini blower like an underdriven 144.The truck is a nice cruiser but not show quality.Maybe one of the BB members knows the truck and can post a pic.
