Speed warning speedo question

I think this has been discussed before but I could not find answer. What does it take to swap a speed warning/speed minder speedo into a regular tach cluster?

Bob,
unless you have the correct tin back plate for speedwarning, you won't have the little stud. if you don't have it, drill an oversized hole so you can install a rubber grommet, run the wire through the hole and attatch it to the buzzer harness wire. i've done a couple of them that way and they worked fine. unless someone gets their head up and under your dash, no one will ever know.

Help me better understand. What I have are a good tch/vac gauge cluster and a good cluster with speedo/speedwarning. I would like to combine them to have it all!! I looked at speedwarning setup and see stud. Are you saying there is a wire on the back of this that I can tap into by drilling a hole in tach backing plate I have already or is it another option to cutr the backing plate in speedwarning setup to accomodate the tach and vacuum?

i didn't know you had both clusters. you can use the tach tin to make a template then transfer it to the speedwarning back tin and cut the tach hole. the little stud on the speedwarning tin is double ended--the speedo head has a wire that attatches to the inside portion of the stud and the buzzer wire attatches to the outside portion. cutting the tach hole takes a lot of time-i've done it a couple times. i also sent some out to be punched but when i got them back the little stud was broken on two of them so i just removed the stud, put a rubber grommet in the hole and put a male/female insulated connector on the wires so i could hook them together.hope this helps.

Basically Cheyenne10 your doing what I've done. I take the speedwaring insulated stud from a non-tach dash and put it onto the tach dash rear metal plate. You can pop those studs out and re-use them. I can't remember my exact details. I used the original speedwarning metal plate to locate the spot to drill a new hole on a non-speedwarning rear metal plate and a correct size hole so the stud could be re-used. The studs have a felt washer IIRC.
