Newb here with some '68 project questions...

Hi all,

Just found this site today and registered - lots of great info and some gorgeous trucks here! Hope mine will turn out half as nice as some of the jewels here...

Anyway, I have a '68 C10 project just getting underway after sitting in storage for the last two years; figured it's time to build it or sell it, and I can't bear to let it go yet, so its time to break out the wallet.

Here's what has been done so far:
- Shortbed with a '93 Sportside bed, rear steps on bed are shaved
- Dropped 4" all around, discs in front, 5-lug hubs/axles, poly bushings
- Rear is new end-to-end with Moser axles, Eaton 3.73 posi
- Have NEW 357 ci 4-bolt small block, built for approx. 400-420 hp
- Muncie M21 4-speed

The pics below are as it came out of storage, and after I stripped the body to go to the body shop. Doing a full frame-off, with all new sheetmetal on the way, and putting the remainder of the build plan together came up with a couple of unknowns - anyone here have suggestions or comments on the following:

1) Seats. I want to put in some bucket seats instead of the bench. Without spending stupid money on aftermarket stuff, I've heard that Nissan Altima seats are a good option (plentiful and cheap). Seeing as how I'll have whatever I use reupholstered anyway, has anyone else used Altima seats, or are there some other recommendations out there?
2) Air conditioning (gets hot in South Fla). I'm looking at Vintage Air, Classic Auto Air, and Old Air Products systems. Any recommendations pro or con for any of these systems?

Sorry to have this first post run long, but thanks for any ideas.

Welcome from Wallburg, NC. That's a great looking project you got there.

Maybe a bit too spendy, but I saw an install on another thread a set of Lincoln Navigator seats that looked GREAT. I can't comment on the ease of fitment, but they looked like a million bucks.

I like the new style step beds on these truck, after the rear steps are shaved.

That will be a sweet ride.

I'm using seats out of a Chrysler 300m, full power with heat and they are soooo comfortable. I know of at least one other person using them.

go to the junkyard and wander around, and sit in some seats, find what feels right.

I paid less than $100 bucks for the pair, and they are in excellent condition.

Good luck!!!

Re: Newb here with some '68 project questions...

As far as air conditioning goes look into Rainbow Products. www.rainbowproductsonline.com the guys name is Mike Brown 704-278-0054.
We, were considering a Vintage Air system for in a customers 66 Impala but after doing some asking around we decided to give this Rainbow Products a try. The unit worked awsome!!
They are a dealer for something like 14 different A/C companys and they took the best traits of several different brands units and rolled them all into their own design, plus being a dealer for all of the other companys, he can get you things such as the factory style vents for you truck from Vintage Air. The units also have a 1 year warranty and the best part about it is that the warranty stars the day you fire up the unit the first time NOT the day you purchase it!! He told me he understood the fact that projects can sit for a while and your warranty would be up before you projects is. The customer service was great. We had a few parts such as 90 degree A/C line fittings and such that came with the unit that didnt work for our particular application and he exchanged them no problem. I plan on putting one of these units in my own truck. Ill look though my pictures later and post any pictures of the install I have.

Craigs List is a good spot for seats. Also, I know around here we have 2 yards that specialize in seats. Not sure if you have anything like that in FL.

Welcome to the board.
