Pontiac motor in a GMC

I was reading on jebbs project thread that there was pontiac motors in GMC trucks, what years did they do that? Does this mean there was streight 8s in the late 40s-early 50s GMC trucks?

Re: Pontiac motor in a GMC

I didn't see the article. I assume he's talking Canadian trucks, where they did get Pontiac engines, but not the straight 8 (to my knowledge). In the US GMC used the 227 (39-52), 248 (53-55), 270 (53-63) and 302 (52-62). I have seen 302's in heavy trucks, not pickups.

Re: Pontiac motor in a GMC

Pontiac engines came in all GMC's pickups up to about 1960 in the US. GMC was a division of Pontiac.

Re: Pontiac motor in a GMC

Here is some info on the motors.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pontiac_V8_engine

" The 336 in³ (5.5 L) engine was only used in GMC trucks. The stroke was 3.875 (98.4 mm) and the bore was 3.56 in. (90.4 mm)."

The motors came in any V8 powered GMC truck from 1955.2 to 1959. GMCs never came with an inline 8 but they did have thier own line of IL6 engines until 1959. In 1960 they all came with Chevy motors. The only exeption to the above is the Canadian versions which came with Chevy IL6s from 1955.2 on. NorthernGMC on this site has a truck that falls in this group. Re: Pontiac motor in a GMC

Come to think of it I seen an old ad for a 55 or 56 larger truck I think it was a chevy and it said you could get a 322 or something like that.
