Carter AFB Competition Series
on the bottom front right corner reads 9755 S 1945
It's not an old school s 60's carb as I purchased it about 10 years ago from Jegs when I built my engine, but can't remember what it is.
I would like to see exactly what it is so I can sell it. Thanks.........

It appears to be a 750cfm.. with GM universal linkage manual choke version..

Your Carter AFB 750 CFM is probably closest to the Edelbrock 1407 for tuning purposes. The later Carter Competition Series AFBs are very similiar to the Edelbrock Performer Series. They're all built by Weber anyway. The rest is packaging and marketing. Carter got bought out by Federal Mogul who weren't interested in carbs, so Edelbrock sells them now.
I have a Carter 9605S AFB [600 CFM] on the 350 in my '71 Jimmy. I use the specs for the EDL-1405. The only difference was the AFB came stock with .071 x .047 metering rods instead of the [richer] .070 x .047 rods Edelbrock uses for a baseline. I'm now 2 stages leaner in Power and Cruise modes.
Recarb kit is EDL-1477.

Thanks a bunch guys! Now everything makes total sense as to why this carb is not working for me. It's way too much carb! No wonder it runs so rich and has no bottom end. What would it be worth? It's for sale. Thanks

Might be a good carb for someone with a big block. New EDL 1407s go for $250 at Summit. I dunno about a used 10 year old rebuildable core. Maybe lucky to get $50 or $100 for it. I'm no expert there.

The Carter AFBs and the Edelbrock AFBs are the same body and internal parts. The parts from one will fit the other. They are a WEBER design, built by MAGNETTI-MARELLI USA. I have a Carter in my storage that is full of Edelbrock parts, it was removed for an upgrade to a different unit. The Edelbrock parts are somewhat cheaper and more plentiful, than the Carter items. The Carter tuning manual is more indepth than what Edelbrock gives you.
