cutin it up

i'm thinking about taking my 3/4 long bed and making it in to a short bed 1/2. i already have the 1/2 crossmember and 12 bolt rearend. i've been lookimg for a frame but here in cali there very scarce. i've heard of people cutting the frame and welding it back together but i'm not sure of any specifics. is there anyone who have done this or knows of someone that has? do you have pics? help!!!
