Sway bar mounting ?
I just bought a front sway bar off a 1980 3/4 ton pickup. My question is, is it okay to mount the bar directly to the frame and not use the brackets for more ground clearance?

Re: Sway bar mounting ?
I've seen it done that way. I don't see a reason it wouldn't work.

kyull76,
Do you plan on taking pics with your install? I'll have mine coming soon from Brothers Truck and it might help me with my install. |

Yeah I'll post pictures, but if you look in the faq truck tech section there's a really good write up with pics in there.

Re: Sway bar mounting ?
My truck is lowered 4" in front and it fits better bolted directly to the frame. I've had mine like this for 6 years or more and no problems doing it that way. On a stock height truck I think you'll find it fits better using the brackets.

Re: Sway bar mounting ?
General rule of thumb for mounting swaybars is you want the arms parallel to the ground.

Re: Sway bar mounting ?
You can also switch it up and mount the sway bar on the "inside" of the front brackets. I've seen a post where someone did this, I'll see if I can find a pic. I think that will give you the "parallel to the ground" mount that you want...........Jerry

Re: Sway bar mounting ?
Any one have pics? I have a 1 1/4" bar off an 84 chevy and want to make sure I mount it correctly!
Where can I buy brackets if I need them, or is a junkyard the best place to find them?

Re: Sway bar mounting ?
If you are mounting to the frame AND bagged, you will run into interference problems with the pitman arm and drag link. I had to use 'lowered' style brackets for clearance.
