pully/belt question on BB

OK, I've had my truck apart for 6 years...originally powered by a small block.

I am now ready to install the pullys and belts, this time on a big block, how do the belts route?

I have no A/C, only PS and obviously alt and water pump. I am assuming one belt goes around alt/water pump/crank, while the other goes around PS/crank...is that correct? If not, what is correct?

Thanks!

Re: pully/belt question on BB

Ok here is how it is on our Chevelle. You have one belt that goes up from the crank pulley, around the water pump and then over to the alt and then back down and around the crank. The other goes around the crank, up to the water pump, and then over to the p.s. pump and then back down to the crank pully. You basically had it correct, just that both belts go around the water pump. If you need pictures then I will go snap some today.

Re: pully/belt question on BB

That's how mine was too. The alternator is on the passenger side. It's kind of a crappy pic though. My truck was a yellow 73 SWB with a 454. I don't think I could get it much closer for you. Please ignore the ultra high tech velve cover breather, though.....

Re: pully/belt question on BB

Mine is arranged just like Jonboy's 73. Mine also has air so the crank has another groove next to the balancer. The pwr steering is double grooved and then the compressor is single. Compressor belt goes from crank to pwr steering to compressor. It's the belt clossest to block. Otherwise just like Jonboy's 73 pictured. Takes forever for me to load a picture because I'm puter stupid...

Also a thanks for making me look...I had thrown the air belt and didn't even notice!
