FI computer tuning anyone?

Ive been slowly throwing parts at the BBC sitting in my garage until the one in my truck finally dies and I can throw in the meaner motor.

Is anybody here really into FI, so into that they know how to program chips/proms?

I managed to "aqquire" a used gear drive for only $40. Since im going TBI with my new motor I cant run it because the when the teeth on the gears mesh the knock sensor will see that and mistake it for knock and tell the prom to pull timing. Thats bad...

So for those of you who might be computer savvy....is there a way to desensetize the knock sensor so I can run one?

Thanks,
Mitch-

Disconnect it. Sorry couldn't help myself. Are you sure that the knock sensor will pick the gear drive up as pinging?

This is what i have heard also but not exactly sure how to get around it since this is the way i am going too. I know we will be taking mine to a guy in Tulsa to program the pcm to not look for stuff like egr and run a 454 pod and injectors. Not exactly sure how he is going around the pinging but will ask my buddy and get back to you.

Re: FI computer tuning anyone?

On my vr4 Galant I had a guy do a custom chip, (Keydiverchips.com) and he put a phantom knock code, which basically ignored the knock signal. However I also had a led that told me how much knock was occurring.

Re: FI computer tuning anyone?

OK my buddy said he has never had a problem with pinging running timing gears on a FI motor. He did say to make sure and run the gear drive straight up at 0 degrees. Hope this helps.
