need 5" Total

I now have 4" drop coils in the front. I want to go 5" in the front but I can't seem to find a good combo that works. It needs to be a good product so no cheap aftermarket stuff. Can anyone tell me the best combo and where to get it...this is what I was thinking...
-2.5" spindles and 2.5" coils (if they even make a 2.5" coil/ thought I saw some somewhere)
-2" spindles and 3" coil
-3" spindles and 2" coil
started to look at 3" lower control arms but they are pricey...
Also I have 72 disc brakes so I need spindles for those. Thanks, Corey

Re: need 5" Total

This probably wont help but if you are looking for a specific height and you can't easily find some kit that works then why don't you just put the front on an air ride setup. You can get a nice ride and handle well. Sorry that is all i had to help.

Re: need 5" Total

The 3" spindles aren't 3" so keep that in mind. A 3" coil isn't the best idea because of the ride quality, so that's out in my book.

If you go with a 3" spindle and a 2" coil, it will be about 5". Also keep in mind that your stock springs have 38 years of sag, so 5" of drop will most likely NOT be 5" lower than how your truck sits now.

As Josh said, I went with bags because I NEVER know how I want to roll. I rolled high when the weather was crap on Thursday, then yesterday I dropped it and crept into work looking cool. When I left, I hit the switches, lifted up an hauled ass out of there like a bandit.

As much pain and time I spent setting this system up (It didn't have to be this hard, I learned a lot), I would do it all over again in a second because the ride and adjustablility is worth it in the end.

Re: need 5" Total

I would love to have bags but I have alot of other things that I have to get before I can do that. I hope to paint by the spring and don't have money to buy bags right now (needs carpet, grill pieces, stereo, emblems, gas tank, ...etc.) right now the 4" coils are on the front and have been about a year. Honestly the 4" coils ride better than the stock springs did. don't know why but they ride very good so 3" will be a step up with spindles. BTW where can I get the 2" spindles? Thanks for the info and advice.

Shrader valves are the same as you use on to fill the air in your tires. You can put the bags in and just run a line to a Shrader valve where you can fill it up with an air chuck to your desired height. Low cost and adjustable.

You need bags more than you need carpet, grill pieces, stereo, emblems, gas tank.

Ya gotta be loooooooow first, everything else is secondary.

Re: need 5" Total

Ok...found brackets for my truck on *****************. How hard is it to put these on and is this the best type to use?

Also which bags would be best to use on this?
Another thing who sells the most complete kit. I don't want to lay frame or anything just get 3-4" lower than my avatar when Im sitting still.

Re: need 5" Total

Trust us when we say don't buy from that company. It is AIM and you can probably deal without the headaches. Just get everything from Suicide Doors. They have great service and prices. If you decide to not go the air route, I was going to say that Belltech and DJM make 3" lower spindles. I myself would like to know if anybody had first hand experience with either of these. I remember people saying one or both are not really 3"??

Re: need 5" Total

The front brackets are straight forward. You drill 4 holes for the upper plate, put a 90 degree push fitting on the bag, mount the plate to the top of the bag, mount the cup to the bottom of the bag, connect the air line to the fitting, route the hose, bolt the top plate in place, put the cup in the spring pocket, and fill with air.

<edit> You can trim the lower cup to get lower overall. You need about an inch of cup to sit in the pocket.

cool. that is def. the way to go. which bags do you recommend using. I saw some for $69 ea. are these good to use...i think they were on *****************. If so thats: $69 x2 (bags) + 60 (brackets)+$30 fittings and hoses...total @ about $230 + shipping as opposed to: $250 (spindle) + $100 (drop springs)...total $350 + shipping

Re: need 5" Total

I like the Slam Specialties because of the built in bump stops. I cut my factory bump stops out, so the internal bag stops are a cool feature. Plus the Slam's don't balloon at all.

Because of the stops, they don't go quite as low as other bags.

That will work for me...I only need to go about 1.5" lower in the front anyway. total of 5.5" overall. If I do this I will drop the rear another inch also with springs. Thanks for the advice. I shaved the factory bump stops but not enough b/c im bottoming out on them w/ 4" of drop...must shave a little more I suppose.

Re: need 5" Total

This is what the truck looked like before the 4/7 drop. now it sits level but can stand to go lower!!! Center of the fender well is 29" off the ground and Im running a 29" tall tire. I want to cover the tire about an inch and I will be happy. And I'll still be able to turn the tire...I think.

Re: need 5" Total

Let me see if I got this right. You have 4" drop front springs now and you are happy with the ride, Right? You don't have the funds for a good air ride set up now due to needing to get other things done on the truck so it looks better Right? Here is were you loose me, why not leave the truck as it is right now and finish up the other things you mentioned so it looks better than once that is done lower it some more witha complete kit? Just a thought..

Have you driven the truck since you put the new springs in? If not, you should realize it's going to settle about another inch. Like Rok said, I wouldn't buy anything else until did the other stuff. And who knows, once the suspension settles, you may be happy with the ride height. JMHO.

Re: need 5" Total

the springs have been on well long enough for everything to settle. I think about 5 months...I am going to get everything else first and do this afterward. tomorrow Im ordering carpet, my seat brackets to put my buckets in, and some other minor things.
Fri. I bought diamond eye headlights, hidden antenna, stainless sill plates, clear dome light lense (the white one sucks), 2" lowering blocks, 4 drop shocks, shock relocator, and door screw set for the door panels. Its starting to come together. Already got my... lenses all the way around, new headlight bezels, weatherstrip for entire truck, flush mount gas cap, 2" cowl hood, and wheel spacers. By the time I get all of this put on it will look alot different. Especially the enterior...at the moment the floor is covered with the factory rubber mat and the bench seat. Im also going to cover the door panels and dash pad in black leather to match the seats.
