What does your truck say about you?

I had a guy @ work today ask why I spend so much money on restoring my old truck when I could just buy a new one instead. Well, I replied, that having an older truck says a lot about someone. He asked what mine says about me.............I said character and being different to go against the status quo. So my question my question to you is what does your truck say about us...more specifically you?

Re: What does your truck say about you?

Mine says I am differant. I like to go against the grain of everyday life. I like to stand out, not blend in like the vast majority. I am a guy that likes simplicity in life. I have been asked the same question about buying a new truck, Why look like twenty million other people. I love classic trucks!

Mine must say that I am torn apart and that I currently live in three different homes: a garage, a driveway, and a storage unit. It says that I am a drifter.

Re: What does your truck say about you?

I agree with Rage’n...that the WOW-factor is surely there but, for me, so is the challenge. The love of vintage ways, the open door to creativity and fulfillment of the tinkering urge. Where else can you show off your hobby, often daily, and enjoy the appreciation of others?…and still fulfill one of our basic needs (transportation)? The fact that I’m involved with GM’s greatest milestone says it all.
Hats Off to All of Us!

Re: What does your truck say about you?

My Longhorn tells the story of respect for an awesome era when trucks were nice looking and easy to upgrade, (TRUCKS WITH CLASS). The longhorn bed says that it has more room for more fun. What does it mean to me? I have owned a 68 lwb, 67 swb and my current two in my avatar. These trucks mean the world to this owner because of the history we both share. My grandfather and Dad own these trucks. They bring comfort and happiness with memories. The pure reward of just driving one down the street is indescribable. Being a part of this Board and sharing with fellow truck owners is an awesome daily event. To discover a new truck everyday would be an adventure.
Respectfully

Re: What does your truck say about you?

this is a tough question, i never really thought about what it says about me, i just new when i first saw it i fell in love with the styling.

i cant remember the quote it's from jamie on mythbusters and was something along the lines of "the more complex a design is made, is to make up for the lack of engineering"

and my truck is simple making me a good engineer, well hopfully i still have a couple more year of school.

Re: What does your truck say about you?

Economically:
The average new car loses 60% of it's value in it's first 4 years. Ask your buddy at work why he would want to piss away $20,000 to $30,000 (or more) on a new truck when you can spend a little at a time on your old truck and, if you're watching what your doing, actually raise the value of your truck. (Let's see one of these '07 trucks 40 years from now...yikes)

Personally:
I don't care what my truck says to others about me. I like my truck because it allows me to be a part of American Heritage, it reminds me daily of the history of American Car builders, and it's just so darn fun to drive.

Drive it for you, let everyone else miss out if they don't like it.

Re: What does your truck say about you?

just something about the way it drives gives me great pleasure. holding that steering wheel and pushing the gas pedal on a carb'ed 350 just can't be beaten. not to mention shifting gears on the steering column. plus the thumbs up i get every now and then.

Re: What does your truck say about you?

Interesting topic. I thought about this a fair amount when I embarked on my restoration. Several of my friends from dirt bike racing just rolled their eyes like I would never have an assembled running truck again. Truth is I love every minute of my shop time and look so forward to cruising in the truck I built! I would like to think it says that when I take on a project that requires tons of patience and about 1500 hours of my precious time that I get it done, and done well baby!

Re: What does your truck say about you?

I have 2 so lets see wht they say.
Orange and white: Are you ever going to put me back together?
Green and white: Gas needs to be cheaper so I can go play.
Both of them say: Get a job and finish us both! lol

I love these trucks for several reasons.
Easy to work on.
Parts are cheap.
Doesnt usually go down in value.
Usually only costs $3,000.00 or less for one.
Except for the rust made alot better than new vehicles.
Older is better and I am a young guy!
No crumple zones, air bags, computers, cats or other bs.
Looks I get driving it.
and lastly,
Everyone loves driving an old classic vehicle it is just kool!

Re: What does your truck say about you?

Even with the bed off and 4 different colors on the truck currently, I still get a thumbs up at times; people look at it with potential as do I. I love to go to the junkyard and think of how society was when all these muscle cars were on the road, or what life was like when the 30s-and 40s cars were sitting on the new car lots.
