Factory tach with new HEI questions!

Ok this should be real simple but I am hoping I just am missing somthing. I just put a stock cluster out of a c50 or better into my 70 Low buck truck build and I also put in a new HEI. I have 12volts acc power to the B+ wire on the tach and the other end is conected to the tach lead of the HEI. I fired it up and nothing Is their a test other then what I did to see if the tach works? I would really like to keep the stock one if I can but!!!

I do not have any extra ground wires than what comes on the cluster. Or do you mean the tach cluster it self?

**Ok now I just went out and fired it up and the tach kind of is working but it shows that my motor idlles at 500 and it will not rev past 7-800? Any ideas on this one. It was late last night when I fired it up so I shut it off quick and did not notice thy movement but now I do just not enough.**

DEAD TACH!!! The ground could matter, but I do not have mine grounded and don't have any of the dashes I restored grounded when testing tachs and have never had any issues.

Some the dashes had a small jumper form the rear tin to the cab for ground

Re: Factory tach with new HEI questions!

To me it sounds like the needle may be sticking or rubbing the tach face, stopping it at 7-800. Did you happen to check to see if the needle would bounce back and forth before you installed it?
