What happens to a 72 in an offset head on collison?

This! Shot this truck at pull-a-part in okc. Only useable parts left were the rear axle and maybe parts of the bed. Sad end to a truck.

By the looks of the cab if you had 3 point seat belts you would be fine with some brusing. Try that in a Honda.

I was shown some pictures of the finished product. At least it survived the junk yard.

Wow, the gauge cluster and the glove box disintegrated completely!

Re: What happens to a 72 in an offset head on collison?

Anyone, want to say that old iron is safer than the new crap? Looks to me that the driver probably took a serious smack inside as well. Old iron don't absorb the shock like the new stuff does. granted the new stuff is usually totalled, you usually walk away. I rolled my 05 YukonXL, one year old and it was totalled. I unhooked the seatbelt, crawled out the window and here I am. Do not get me wrong I own and drive several of these old "ALL STEEL" trucks, but I feel alot safer in my new truck.

Re: What happens to a 72 in an offset head on collison?

Jimmy I think they were raided but I still bet they were messed up as by how the dash is warped.

70rs/ss I got the oposite filling than you got. Yah I bet I would have ate a steering wheel but for the most part the passenger compartment is still intact. I dont mind a vehicle that crumples in front and back but not the passenger compartment. Plus from they way I see it the dash bent up and out of the way where as most cars I see wrecked now the dash shatters and ends up penning you in the car.

Re: What happens to a 72 in an offset head on collison?

I agree, there looks to be a lot of room in there, but that was a HARD lick and your body would have had to absorb that abrupt stop. In the new cars, you can see the energy being absorbed by the car as it crumples (slow mo is way cool). The body panels ripple with energy as the compact. When you see big creases in a fender or hood, that is a sign that the energy was not absorbed.

You're better off in an old vehicle.

I work with totaled off vehicles all day long. You'll survive in an older full framed truck, rather than a honda at close speeds.

Re: What happens to a 72 in an offset head on collison?

OLD STEEL IS BETTER THAN NEW PLASTIC!

yea new cars have crumple zones but then look at how mangled new cars get and look at that truck still more intact than a new would be, and yes new cars absorbe the energy but then you also usually get trapped and this truck you have just as much room as you did before but opinions are opinions

i feel safer in my truck than in a new car

Re: What happens to a 72 in an offset head on collison?

I lost 2 friends and my Dad and step mother were injured for life. The four of them were in the Suburban completely stopped in the ditch when the drunk in the S-10 Blazer drove right into their headlights. I hate to say it but I'm glad he died also. We found out that he was a habitual offender and was going to court on the following Monday to do some serious time. He had no insurance and no drivers licence. This happened 12 years ago this past October.
