I am not the lone ranger???
Here is my situation the '69 C10 fleetwood I am restoring came with a '67 327 motor and a "69 powerglide tranny. The build date on the tranny is Oct. 10, 1969. (orginal tranny) I can't seem to determine the build date for the truck overall. (any suggestions?? ) It seems to make sense that it is after the 10th of Oct. 1969, so I need to locate a motor that was assembled /casted in the same month October or in September of "69. (How far apart should the motor and tranny build dates be apart???) The other thing that bothers me in my quest to uncover the history of this truck, (I know by the model number CE10934 it came equipped with a V8)... is what motor I need. I have narrowed it to either a 350 or 307 (yuck).............any suggestions...directions....advise...would be greatly appreciated.......I know I am not the lone ranger in this quest to uncover the mystery that surrounds the bowtie......

Re: I am not the lone ranger???
On the drivers side door, in the latch area, there is... or was... a sticker that'll give the month it was built. If it isn't there, then the build sheet may have the date it was built, pull the seat out and look for a rotten piece of paper stuffed in the springs.
As for your engine, is the SPID (option) sheet still in the glove box? If it is, then it'll show optional engines... no option means 307. 350 and 396 (if it is in fact a 69) were the only optional V8 motors. The build sheet will also tell you if there was an optional engine in it. If you don't have the build sheet, or the SPID label, you'll never know what your truck came with. |

Re: I am not the lone ranger???
CE149 should be the begining of your VIN... if it is CE140, then you have a 70 and not a 69. I'm not sure when they stopped with one year and went to the other.. but i agree with the others, that your tranny isn't original if your truck is a 69.
On a side note, powerglides were very uncommon in 69, and even moreso in 70. The TH350 took it's place in 69, and left the powerglide in smaller vehicles. |

Re: I am not the lone ranger???
The Truck has the spid label in the glove box..is does not list an optional motor but shows the m35 tranny as an option..........list all other options but none realting to motor...the model number CE10934 indicated it was a V8

Re: I am not the lone ranger???
well, the M35 is in fact the powerglide.
No motor option means 307. Bummer. Is that the complete first 1/2 of the model number???? C - 2 wheel drive E - v-8 1 - 1/2 ton 09 - SWB _ - model year 43 - fleet side bed |

Re: I am not the lone ranger???
couple posts made while I was typing... agreed, your VIN says 69. Does the SPID show the same VIN as the truck does?

Here is the way it seems
According to my information and research the 1969 C10 could have came with a 307 with the powerglide tranny which is a std package situation. But since the spid code on this 1969 shows the M35 option (which is the powerglide) and even though the powerglide was made on October 10, 1969. since it was an option listed on this spid code. This still could be the original tranny. It seems to me the motor was a 350 c.i. originally or there would not have been the need for the M35 option code on this truck. Any other thoughts would be appreciated

Re: I am not the lone ranger???
the added C is only in 72.
An automatic tranny was never standard in any truck back then. A 3 speed column shift is standard. A CE truck, with no options, would be powered by a 307 with a 3 speed column shift and 3.73 gears. This is true from 68, up till 72. In 67, a 283 and a 3 speed/3.73 would be standard on a CE truck. |

Re: I am not the lone ranger???
I have a 70 Chevy parts truck that was a factory powerglide truck. Tranny is gone. But the shifter proves it. And i know its the factory column. Its not the first one i have had either.
GM put powerglide trannys in cars(some, and very few) up to 1974.

Re: I am not the lone ranger???
what i meant in regards to a standard package was that for a truck to have a std package in 1969 with a automatic transmission it would be a 307 with a powerglide... since my spid shows the powerglide as an option.. it makes sense that it would have been an option for a 350 c.i.. I am going to measure the output shaft on the transmission tomorrow and depending how it measures it will either be a 1.82 or 1.76 geared and that will determine what motor came with that tranny. As far as production runs stopping in July of 1969 for the C10 truck I am still unclear of that but am checking a motor that I know with 100% certainity is out of a 69 C10........I will get back with you on the dates and casting number......Thanks for everyones inputs on my post..I truely appreciate the direction........hence the mystery of the bowtie continues.....
