Steering issues and shocks.....Help!

I have a '99 in my shop that has a serious bump steer.
Alignment shop and Dealer can not fix it.
It has the Rack and Pinion steering.
During this diagnosis the shocks were changed, it now has 80k.
I found the split upper shock biscuits sitting on the frame rail.
We looked at all replacement shocks we could find and all had the usual upper and lower biscuits.
I found a replacement upper mount bushing.
What's the deal, the replacement shocks obviosly will not work on this truck. How many others have these shocks on them?

I know these are 2 different problems but my knowlege is on much older vehicles

I understand that GM did a recall on the rack equiped 1500's but according to the dealer this truck's vin is not included.

Re: Steering issues and shocks.....Help!

My truck bump steers a little, but it is bagged without shocks. From my experience it is usually caused by alignment. Is the truck lowered or anything? Has it been wrecked maybe? Did you see the sheet with the caster, camber, and tow specs?, because Iv'e had an alignment shop screw me before and just pull my truck up on the rack and look at it for a few minutes and charge me $50

Re: Steering issues and shocks.....Help!

all stock, alignment checked and double checked, by the dealer and a frame and alignment shop.
He has hit a deer but no serious structural damage, just a broken grille.
He went to the dealer to check into the shock issue and they also have the wrong shock.
I wonder how many are running around with screwed up shocks.
Also the rack moves aroun too much (IMO) but, can't replace the bushings. (new rack)
He's ready to trade this POS in on a Ford!

I'm glad I do old trucks/cars,

Well I guess your on the right track with the shocks then, if that doesn't work try and get him to put a rack on it. Whatever you do don't let him trade for a ford. You'll really have problems then.
