New Gm 350 Block

Anybody purchase a new gm block through Jegs? I am thinking about purchasing this block and building myself a replacement for my 305. Any of you guys had success with these new GM blocks?

My brother bought one and built it for another guys purestock ace car had no problems. I am lucky I get al the 350 vortec engines pulled from trucks and suv's tha have blown head gaskets most have under 50k miles. If you lived closer I would make you a deal on a vortec 350 long block just have to buy a vortec carborated intake. I run them in most of my vehicles 87 tbi k5, 71 gmc c15, 73 camaro, and 99 suburban but thats the original vortec. But the jegs blocks are a good buy just to pricey for me.

Check with your local GM dealership...

I'm guessing you are looking at a GM performance Block, and your dealership can get them, probably at the same price, and you might save a little on shipping.

aftermarket blocks are great for high horsepower but a waste other than that

I didn't check the price through Jegs but a suggestion is trying to find a complete 88 and newwer roller engine in one of the bigger salvage yards in Pa. that way you can reuse alot of the smaller bolt on stuff that seems to add up by the end of the build just my .02 Good Luck with what ever you decide.

Man, I dunno….I bought a brand new crate 454HO for my ’78 K10 a few years ago and when I poured the coolant in it on start up day it was pouring out on the floor as fast as I was pouring it in. Naturally, I thought the intake was leaking and the coolant was just pouring down the side of the block. Because, you know, I though the General wouldn’t make a huge mistake or anything.

WRONG….look at the left cylinder head. It is missing a ton of metal right at the water jacket! No wonder the head gasket would not seal.

It even gets better…..no GM dealer would warranty the head (or the engine) because it was past the 12 month warranty, as I bought the engine then did the usual budget program saving lunch money and saving spare change for all the accessories, etc before I screwed it all together about 18 months later. It cost me another $500 for a brand new head. To make matters worse, I worked for the fricken company and still could not get any help from the GMSPO rep. 4 years later this still pisses me off all over again just thinking of it.

Other than my sad story, I have never heard of any bad things with new GM performance engine, blocks, etc. If I were to buy another….it too would be a GMPP engine.
