Rust? and Sanden brackets

Ok, I keep hearing about this "rust" thing...

Ya see, I was outside in shorts today, crawling around on the floor of the garage looking all over my truck for it... I had a sweatshirt on, as it was only about 70 out, but it is supposed to heat up this weekend...

So anyways, I looked all over for this rust thing, in all the spots I read about it on the board... nope, none of it.

Is rust something I need? Can I import it from someone in another part of the country? It sounds like I need to get some just so I can fix it!

On the flip side, I sprung for a Sanden 508 compressor and need the bracket to fit it to the engine... anyone know where to get a decent one?

Thanks!

Re: Rust? and Sanden brackets

so the point of your post was

1. A WTB ad?
or
2. to be a smarty about your weather and lack of road salt?

I personally love snow in the winter and seasons in general....woohoo

rust still sucks though

Alan Grove makes 2 different styles of the brackets for mounting your compressor.

One is side mount (wide) and the other is top mount.

Alan Grove Components is the name of the company.

What was the story about the rust and the weather all about?

old air products.com out of Fort Worth, Tx. should be able to help you. Lee Baker is a salesman there and will go out of his way to get what you need.

Re: Rust? and Sanden brackets

If you pay shipping and handling I can send you all the rust you need. For a limited time only I will also include snow as an added bonus!!!!!!!! Thats right you get the rust and all the snow you can handle just for the cost of shipping and handling!!!! If you work it out over a year thats just pennies a day... less then the price of a cup of coffee!!!!!!!

Re: Rust? and Sanden brackets

For 35 years, I was in the 1000's islands- near Ogdensburg - the 70 C20 I had at the time was worse than what most people here part out - I thought vehicles that had no view of the road through the floor were for sissies... matter of fact, when I stood still up there, not only did I hear the truck rusting, but I was rusting too! I moved to NC and it's STILL not far enough south! I did notice since moving here, everything needs salt... hahahahaahhaha

You could also steal the brackets off of a later model truck (90+) & all the accessories & have yourself a nice serpentine setup. 1 belt is better than 3 in my book. They also come on the front of those 4.3l motors as well.

Later,
Buddy

Re: Rust? and Sanden brackets

Ohh.. I can get snow...

Hell, once a year, just to prove a point, we jump in the van and drive to Mammoth, spend the night, ski in the am, and then drive back home and surf in the afternoon....

On the downside, besides not having any rust, our 4bdr, 3bth house on a postage stamp was $775... Everytime we go back to NY, I look at the price of a few acres and cry. But when I get home, and its 75 deg and sunny 300 days a year, its well worth it, to me anyways...

I guess the brackets im looking for dont exist.. I was thinking about a nice billet one or even a decent steel one, that kinda kept the AC in the stock location... Im not into the whole serpentine thing.. to modern looking for me, even tho I do have billet pulleys.. Im kinda hard to figure I guess...

So if I cad up a bracket and have some done, woudl anyone else be interested?

Will

I think that's a good price for a house Although, it probably won't be too long before a postage stamp itself will cost $775.

Pansy, up here, that's 40º weather! Anything below about 35º is just getting into sweatshirt weather, for most people. You can still see me in a t-shirt when it's 20-30º out though.

As for the rust, I can ship you my cab. If you think you're a good bodyman, I'd even consider covering the shipping just to see somebody fix that thing. And if you did successfully fix it, I'd consider covering the bill to make a statue of you.

damned straight buddy. Forty around here is about t-shirt weather, shorts and sandals are optional. Oh yeah, and talk about the kinda weather to drive with your arm out the window, it's about perfect. And snow right now, we just got slightly snowed on, I'd say there's about a foot or so on the ground at most points, plus the wind is blowing it around, making ir worse in some places. Perfect winter weather, I've got to say.

Hey, at least we don't use salt very much at all around here either. Somebody was smart when they figured that salt destroys vehicles, so they didnt use it in the winter, unlike a lot of places around here. If it was like that, I sure as heck wouldn't be driving my 97 around, letting it get rusted up. It'd be sitting in storage or something, sure as hell not on salty roads.

Re: Rust? and Sanden brackets

around here they still use quite a bit of salt on the roads. after just a week or even a couple of days your car will be white up the windows. its really bad on the interstate the roads are actually white
