Temp light flickers / How do you wire an ammeter?
My temp light flickers on and off on my '67 Chevy. Loose wire? The aftermarket temp gauge says 190degrees and it just started doing this...? I don't see any pattern but it seems to flicker most when reving the engine, at a steady speed/rpm the light just stays on. What does this mean?
I've got an ammeter on here that is not hooked up. Not sure what wire goes where, never hooked one up before. Does the reading wire go to the output of the alternator?

Wecome to the forum.
On your dummy light, since you have a guage also...I would just remove the bulb from the light. As far as your bat. guage, the small wire coming off the pos i=on the batt, you run that to your guage, then run another wire from the other side of the guage back to the battery. ------------------ '69 G.M.C. 350/350. Trying to clean up the left over damage from the Dope-Smokin-Old-Man I've been dubbed the Longhorn Freak/Fanatic/Expert, I just hope I can live up to it. I know a VOLT meter is hooked up that way, didn't know it was the same for ammeter (amps)???

They are diffrent. An amp meter is hooked up to the alternator. Amp meters are dangerous (thats why people don't use them any more. they use Volt meters instead). An amp meter needs to have that large wire comming from the alternator comming through the fire wall. If there is ever a short, you have major car fire / meltdown! I wouldn't use it. Just my opinion. They do have a shunt system (for safety), however, I still wouldn't use one. Sorry I don't have details on exactly what wire goes where. Darren

The volt meter is run from positive to guage to ground.

Twilightopics, I would go by what Longhornmail is saying. My experience is with older style Ammeters. And Longhornmail seems to have a newer style guage, and good instructions. Darren
