Never heard of it.

In my 84 scottsdale, I have what they call a 350 lockout tranny. In the last gear it bogs down as if it was a overdrive tranny. The problem I am having with it is when you go to slow down, it jerks like hell. My question is this. Is this tranny worth rebuilding or would I be better off getting a 350 turbo? Any suggestions?

Re: Never heard of it.

it's a 350 lock up trans, the converter is staying locked up, check brake switch area for the disengage pedal switch,(check a schematic to make sure it does or doesn't run through the brake light circuit.) I'd get a 700r4 but it depends on what you are doing with the truck. The 350 lockup trans do fine if cared for and you are not doing wheelies...

Re: Never heard of it.

Mine came with the lock out also. Once I switched from the 305 (gutless wonder) to my current 383, the lock out didn't last long. I switched to a Turbo 350.

Re: Never heard of it.

from what i have seen of the 350th lock-up trannies is that when you put any kind of power infront of them that clutch in the converter doesn't last long...they were a weak design in those trannies...

That's what I was thinking on doin. 700r4. Will it hook up like the tranny I already have, or will I need to do some adjustments?

Re: Never heard of it.

yes a 700 r will live. again, depends on what you are doing. I have one in my big block truck . make sure you get trans from 1987 up as the imput shaft is stronger and bigger. Get a vette or similar servo for the band. kevlar clutches, manual valve bodies are available if you need one. TCI and other companies make loose converters that lock up and also stand alone electrics for lockup. I have a 2400 converter, superservo and the good clutches. smoke the hides as far as you want. If I were drag racing I'd go with a 400 or 350 turbo but for the street and a truck that basically wont see slicks, the 700 is cool.
