Patina Paint Jobs
Rockrln got me thinkin with his "low buck" painting vs. shiny paint job question in his thread. Being that I have no experience painting, I wonder if this would be a better idea in the end because you wouldn't see any orange peel or runs after you "rough it up". How is this accomplished? They mention something about a scothbrite pad or something.
Here is a awesome example of the look I'd be aiming at.  Also, does anybody have a list or examples of the factory 67 colors that were available? Would you paint a rust color, then rough up, then paint a factory color and rough through to the rust color?

Not to hijack your thread but when I was stationed at Castle there were a pair of these big tanks that were painted up like a pair of boobs. They were on the right when you left the base heading to Merced in one of the fields. This was prob back around 1990 or so.

Original paint is just worn thin.....
This 1969 truck i have is still original sea foam green paint.

I too love that look. I know this can be done artificially, but the best "rusto rods" IMO are the desert trucks that have been patina'd naturally in the desert heat.

I did the patina thing on the bed of my beater. The truck had patina already, but the bed was blue and didn't match so I matched it to the cab's patina.

Yeah, I was afraid that the only way to make them look that good was to get them naturally aged. I saw a 50 five window that was sort of a teal color and it had a hay bail in the bed from an old "Classic Trucks" magazine, and that was what made me really like it. Then when I saw the above picture I REALLY liked it. Oh-well.
Sonny, I think out of everybody I've ever mentioned those tanks to, you and I are the only ones that ever noticed them. They add a third tank and re-painted them all to match, so they aren't there anymore.

About three or four years ago Rod&Custom did a write up on how to create a patina on your vehicle.... My buddy has that issue, I will see if I can find out the exact issue....

Yeh I bought this truck just for the paint job! It has been sitting in a barn since the late 60's and just came out last year. I plan on getting to it one of these days.

I am wondering if that first truck is a fake patina? It has had the front and rear side markers shaved which leads me to believe it was created...

How do you know that the side marker lights have been shaved ??? 67's didn't have side marker lights.

67's didn't have markers front or rear. The panaramic rear window was an option in 67.

I knew I had seen that truck before I wasn't sure if it was one of the good guys shows or if it was auto fair. I got to every one of them. My boss knows that when there is a big show that he has to schedule someone else since I just wont go to work so I can go.
