Engine Mods

I recently cam across a good and cheap cadillac 472 engine, will this fit in my truck and what kind of mods do I need to make. Will it bolt up to my th400. Is it worth it? I am currently running a 350 that really need to be rebuilt.

Re: Engine Mods

If your current TH400 tranny is for a Chevy, then no, it won't bolt to the 472.

However, you can find TH400's for Buick Olds, Pontiacs and Caddys that will fit the 472.

Will the 472 "Fit"? Yes, but it's not a turn key swapout.

The real issue here is how much work and cost is required to get it to work. For starters

Motor mounts,
exhaust
all the engine bolt on accessories
Most of the hoses.
And probably the fan shroud and radiator.
Dunno about the driveshaft length and cross member. Maybe they'll be the same.

Plan on at least a couple of full weekends drilling welding and trial fitting things.

If you can get the 472 with ALL of it's bolt-ons, then that'll save you a lot of time hunting for brackets that'll work and line up.

On the positive side, that 472 will deliver awesome torque. In low gear, you'll think you're on a rocket sled.

Re: Engine Mods

So it is worth it. I found a guy selling a 72 caddy for 350. The car is complete it just got crushed by a huge tree. I don't want the car just the drivetrain.

Longhorn Man will have some answers for you too, he's done the Caddy thing a couple of times. You might shoot him a PM.
