Re: Points to HEI On 402 BB
You will have 2 wires to eliminate. The Yellow from the starter to the coil, and the resistance wire to the firewall. You will need a peice of 10-12g pink wire(if you want to be color correct). Remove the firewall connector and slide out the engine harness towards the side. Remove the resistance wire from the connector, mark it's location. You will need a new terminal end(same as factory.-Kragens,Autozone,etc... will all have them in an assortment pkg. Install new terminal on one end of new wire and insert it into the socket, where the resistance wire was. Now tape up the wire loom at the firewall end. Reconnect the firewall plug. Runn the wire with all the other wires and drop it off from the gutter just above the distributor. Tape that area of the wire loom. You can use female crimp connectors,or pick up a new pig tail for the distributor hook up and splice it in. Plug the new wire into the "BAT" side of the HEI and you are ready.(make sure you ahve hooked up all other wire in the harness to starter and guages, and retape the entire harness.) Remove and replace the distributor as you would in any other situation-get new plug wires/plugs,and open the plug gap to .045 to start with. Fire it up. DONE, and it looks factory. There are other ways, but this is the cleanest way that I have found. Good Luck!

I think he means to plug your new wire into the harnes that's in the firewall. It makes good sense, and will also look clean. I just ran a 12 gauge wire from the my fuse panel straight to the distributor and cut the other two he's talking about. The "clean" look doesn't really fit my trucks motif.
Here's a pic that describes what manimal is talking about:

I just used the connection marked IGN on the inside of the car at the junction block and plugged a new connector into that, then ran a #10 wire from there to the coil through an existing grommet in the firewall. Take off the resistance wire and yellow wire and cap them off. You'll be good to go.

Re: Points to HEI On 402 BB
Ok GUys another question with the wiring. On my new GM HEI I have three wires coming out a red a black and a brown. Now do I hook my hot wire to one of those three wires or do I usethe connectionson the side of the cap? The three wires come of the Dist. its self then there are looks like connections on the cap/coil no wires just connections. Jim
