Please Help Me =(

Ok, so my 87 swb has a new issue... when you first start it up there is a squeek like a belt and only does it when u rev up, could be the belt? when you put into reverse it takes like 5-10 seconds then u can feel it lightly kick in, my truck also does the squeek if i hammer the throttle and it squeeks right before it shifts into the next gear or if i go 55mph or faster it will untill i slow down... i was told my torque converter may be going bad? is the squeek a belt? sometimes it feels as if my truck is bogging down and then it will catch up with its self and go.... whats the deal? its a 305 tbi with a th400 trans

Re: Please Help Me =(

It almost sounds like you have two seperate problems. The squeek at start up and revving sounds like a belt slipping. Are your belts glazed over? And the second problem sounds allot like low/bad fluid. Also there is a vaccum line to the tranny modulator from the intake make sure it is connected and not split. I would drop the pan and fully service the tranny before going right to the converter.

Re: Please Help Me =(

if the fluid is not cherry red and smells burnt id leave the trans alone and budget a rebuild.. if its low id add to it but to service a trans with burnt clutches only hastens its demise. I agree with the belt issue either tighten up the slack or change them and if the pulleys are real glossy id use a little sandpaper on em to get the shine off and make the belt grip better

A converter squeaking??? I don't think so.
listen good to the alternator with a long screwdriver while someone else taps the throttle. Bearings go bad in those alternators all the time. crossy

Re: Please Help Me =(

HotRod73,

? Could it be a bad A.I.R. pump causing the belt to slip and squeal?
