What did you get done? 04/01 April Fools edition

I worked this weekend but did manage to get a couple of truck related things done. I drove to Brenham Saturday morning to deliver a set of Denali wheels and tires to the new owner. I collected my six hundred and fitty taters and came back home.

Then I took my wife to pick up her Denali that was in the shop. It had been making a growling noise from the front dif, so I had it checked out. I gave the guy at the transmission shop my six hundred and fitty taters plus a few more and brought it home.

He had to put a complete bearing set in the front dif. I looked at the races and every bearing in there was pitted. Oooh, that great GM feeling.

Today I watched my daughter play volleyball. Her team had been playing in a 4 stop series and today was the final stop. They took 1st their age division....

What did you get done?

Re: What did you get done? 04/01 April Fools edition

Went up to northern arizona to hang out in the cool weather and relax for today.

Then I managed to break my truck on my way back. Needs a new distributor. In the meantime I'm driving a car that has a bad fuel pump and likes to randomly die on me. I don't know which is worse... the truck or this car.

Re: What did you get done? 04/01 April Fools edition

Got back from Charlotte Friday night, spent 2 days training on some 3d xray unit, those things are a little pricey. Went to see my brother/dad/sisters over in Greenville, had dinner, then back to the hotel in Charlotte.
Picked up my serpentine setup on Saturday. Spent the afternoon and some of this morning cleaning/degreasing it. Wish I had a blast cabinet... Making a list of what parts I need for my 91 burb front end, plastic chrome grill needs replacing, and the light doors.
Spent the rest of my day sitting around.

Re: What did you get done? 04/01 April Fools edition

I finally replaced the leaky rear glass slider with a one piece glass and new gasket. I also got it tinted.

Does anyone have some ideas/opinions for a high-quality, good-looking headache rack?

Re: What did you get done? 04/01 April Fools edition

I spent yesterday & today relocating my rear shock crossmember 3" higher on my 68.

Actually.... yesterday was spent patching up the holes I put in the crossmember during 2 different attempts of locating the 88-98 Bilsteins w/the c.member in the stock location. After getting frustrated, I decided to just raise the crossmember & use the factory placement for the shocks.

Next is adding plates to the pass side trailing arm for my long panhard bar conversion & swapping the Stones out for the new Slams. Hopefully, my buddy will be able to swing by next weekend & help drop the 350/700r4 in for the final time.

By the way will not dropping the back give it a nice rake because it seem pretty even even though the front is on a 1/2 thick part of cement higher than the back?

Re: What did you get done? 04/01 April Fools edition

Thanks bmartin. I've got waay too much invested in audio equipment In addition to that stuff up there, I have Pioneer 6x9s in the rear deck, Pioneer 6.5s in the doors, a Pioneer 4-channel amp 6200F powering them, that RF amp is the 600.2 and those are Stage1 10s, and its all controlled by Pioneer DEH5800. I figure that now that I'm in a reliable, fuel-efficient car, I can have a good system. All I bought for the Honda were the 6.5s, and the stuff in the trunk. I had the rest of it in the truck.

Re: What did you get done? 04/01 April Fools edition

I spent money on my wife's new Ram. She drives the family travel rig, so I have a Pioneer AVIC-N3 nav unit & ND-BC2 camera, Vizualogic Quantum 10" overhead DVD, Polk 6x9's up front, and Pioneer 6.5's in the rear.

The 79 just has some new 6.5's, Sirius receiver, and USA-1 radio in the original 3-hole location. Nothing HI-FI.

BTW, make sure you spend some $$$$ on security.

Its got anti-theft and an alarm And its got that crazy new jazz where the only key that will work is one from Honda with the chip in it coded for the car. Crazy space-age technology....

Re: What did you get done? 04/01 April Fools edition

Saturday morning I worked like 7 hours, then in the afternoon I helped a friend move - turns out my Town Car can fit just as much stuff as a mid-'90s Silverado with an 8" bed, gotta love them mafia cars, lol

Sunday I helped a friend patch his exhaust system, then spent like 2 hours running from parts store to parts store looking for a fuel inlet for my Holley DP, then took the Holley apart and cleaned it, then bolted it to the new intake. Would have installed in on the truck, but one of primary metering block's gaskets is distorted so I'll need to get a new kit. In the evening I put my Q-jet back together and re-set the float lever, turns out it was way too high before. When reinstalling the choke I sheared a bolt in the flapper's shaft, so the linkage could not be connected at all. "Solved" the problem by flipping the flapper upside down and locking it halfway open (with my current metering rods I can't have it wide open anyways or my engine will die even when warmed-up nicely), also disconnected the vacuum lockout for the secondaries so now the secondaries will open even if the engine's cold - outside temperature ain't too bad anymore, so engine won't die from leaning out too much. Also finally came around to installing my personalized license plate ("Chevy79"), so truck now has one less thing to attract cops.

Re: What did you get done? 04/01 April Fools edition

Sold both my stepside and my K5, then drug the rest of the 2000 off for scrap. Held onto the diffs, and cab though, still good stuff there.

Buddy dropped off a 93 K3500 with a 6.5TD to pull the NV4500 out of sometime in the next couple weeks, and I've finalized the deal on my 6.0L.

So, got rid of two trucks, all the scrap I had kicking around, and brought in a new hulk to canabalize... Life as normal around here :P

Potentially looking into picking up an 84 K25. I've realized that there is more than one advantage to swapping to an 81+ cab and steering components. Biggest advantage is in the steering. My 80's steering is in need of a complete overhaul, and I need to switch over to an 81+ steering box so I can run my 83 hydroboost setup, and the stock power steering pump on the 6.0L. I also have some VIN issues that can be resolved by registering the 84, and just swapping the stuff from the 80 over, like the front clip, cab lights etc. Finally, also gives me a frame to mock up all of my 6.0L stuff on before I do the final swap around, and wind up with an 84 GMC K25 with a 6.0L, NV4500 / NP241, 80 GMC clip, and a totally restored body. Won't be registered the same as my 80 used to be, but it will look the same, and that is all that really matters to me

I went over to idaho to visit my relatives all weekend. Just relaxed and helped them get some heavy stuff moved and dug up. Went hot tubbing and I also got my new 2500 Watt amp wiring kit off ebay in the mail. Also got my dad hooked up with a new ride: '94 S-10 Tahoe Blazer. Scored it for 1200 $$.

Actually you can run '80s diesel hydroboost on an older truck, the only thing you need to do is cut both the stock and the hydroboost pressure lines, slide the old nuts on the hydroboost lines, then flare the hydroboost lines and bolt them up. Works flawlessly, and brakes are powerful enough to blow the old brake lines, as proven by my Mini-Monster twice already
