Dang! I am gonna have to unlift my ride!

First time in my life... I am moving officially soon, and without 'unlifting' there is no way the Burb is getting in the garage. I was planning on selling it, but I am not sure. Pittsburgh is not a place to keep the burb outside in the winter, and I don't want to have to warm it up and freeze my cobbles off brushing the snow off in subzero temps. I am gonna miss my 10' garage.

I will have to go down to 4" and 35s from 6" and 37s. I will probably get Tuff Country front/rear springs and some Nitto Terra Grapplers. Another thing I am bummed about is, my Bilstein's might be too long for 4"...

I dunno, what do you guys think? 4" + 35's, shocks and AC compressor for around $2k (resell 6" springs/blocks and 37s to recoup some) or screw it, sell it and get a car payment again on something newer and smaller?

Install a remote start, crank it when you are getting ready for work just leave the heater on high when you get out at night.

Re: Dang! I am gonna have to unlift my ride!

Dig out the floor in the garage and repave the driveway to slant down

I would just go ahead and lower it some. Better than getting rid of it. You got a little time to get things sorted out as spring is coming along, so maybe you can enjoy a summer of wheelin with the current setup then switch at the end of summer. By then you may be able to find someone looking for your setup and willing to pay you a fair price for it.

I say drop it a little. You were lucky enough to find a really clean Burb, so why start over. It will still look good on 35's and a/c is always a plus...

Re: Dang! I am gonna have to unlift my ride!

I would say add the remote and try it for the first winter, then decide. This isn't Utah and we only had a few large snow's this year (8"-10" at a time). Pitt might get a little more since it's closer to the lake but you might find that you won't mind it being outside. I have a remote on my car and it works really well...

Re: Dang! I am gonna have to unlift my ride!

Well, having been born and raised in Pittsburgh, I can tall ya the winters here are not that bad. It gets pretty cold in January, but we really don't see that much snow anymore. Maybe one bad one a year. Depending on what part of town you are moving to, you might be able to find a decent spot of land to build your own garage. If you are anywhere in the city limits, or the close susburbs, then forget it. Houses are close together and garages are a joke. Not to mention certain places are real sticklers about working on your vehicle. Again, just depends where you go. Did you already find a house or have an area you wanna live in?

Re: Dang! I am gonna have to unlift my ride!

Not sure what the rules are any more, been a while since I lived in Pittsburgh, but I would check on what they allow on tires and lifts. PA inspections are a bear and they were a real pain about tires that stick out past the wheel wells. They were not real happy about large lifts either. Before you invest in any changes I would check on the inspection/licensing/local laws on it.

We are in contract on a place in Hampton Township (NNW of Fox Chapel), just a stones throw from Hartwood Acres. Should be moving in within a couple of months.

There is a lot of great input here and I really appreciate it. I talked to a local 4x4 shop here in PA, and he did mention that they are sticklers for mud flaps and flares as necessary. You guys have good ideas. Maybe I will just keep her outside for a while and see how it goes; I have enough to worry about with the move anyways. It will look out of place with all of the Lexuses and Acuras in the neighbors' driveways!

Here's the new diggs-

Re: Dang! I am gonna have to unlift my ride!

I did get the MSD ignition installed, ya. It must have been a month or so ago.

Thanks for the compliment... There is definitely some advantage in selling out West and moving out East. Definitely gives a cost advantage.

Re: Dang! I am gonna have to unlift my ride!

Hampton is a real nice area, but I can almost bet that your neighbors won't be the kind that like loud 4x4's. PA inspections are pretty strict with lifts, especially if you go to a chain (Pep Boys, etc.). Tires sticking out beyond the wheelwells, mudflaps, and bumper height are tough ones. Now if you find the right inpection place...well, thats a whole nother game.

Re: Dang! I am gonna have to unlift my ride!

According to a sticky thread over at FSC in PA yer rear bumper shouldn't be higher than 30" off the ground, dunno about the front tho. Tires sticking out can generally be fixed with flares (which are a good idea anyways), mudflaps can be added in various sizes and shapes. Also you might be able to retain yer Utah registration for quite a while, dunno how strict the PA DMV is but here I see cars with Ohio and Indiana or Illinois plates and their owners have been residents of MI for years already.

Hey thats a really nice pad. It sucks that your rig might not fit the neighborhood. You need to just move down south(AR) and live like you wanna. You can own your big fancy house along with some acres to tear up.

Re: Dang! I am gonna have to unlift my ride!

The bumper height thing in PA is wierd. The height pretty much depends on what you have. They classify a full size Blazer as a station wagon, and so it doesn't need Truck plates, so it's bumper height has to meet what a passenger car does, which makes no sense because it sat higher than a car when it was stock. I think you can get it classified as a truck IF you pay the extra for a truck registration. It really depends on how the police are in the area, and the shop you go to. I have 5.5" and 32's on my Cherokee, and it has always passed. It is considered a station wagon, and in no way meets the bumper height law.
