M1028A1, another new project

Picked up an 85 M1028A1 at Govt. surplus in Chambersburg thursday, I was the "lucky" high bidder. It has only 6,000 miles on it, direct from Kuwait! Service body is all aluminum with a 4 cylinder Wisconsin engine/generator set in back. Missing passenger door glass, fuel tank, cracked w/s, no fluids but has the most perfect cab and front clip I've ever seen these days of this body style. And of course, has an NP205 transfer case, dana 60 front axle and the 6.2 diesel engine. Have to think on what to do with this one. Thought I'd share.

Well, the way I see it it's damn near perfect for a recovery vehicle for stuck buddies - just throw some bigger and more aggressive tires (don't even lift it, leave it as is) and maybe re-gear for more pulling power.

Yup, put some WWII military Jeep style tires on it, plunk a Lincoln wire feed welder in there attached to the generator, hook up an air compressor, and possibly rig it for hydraulics and you've got an AWESOME portable shop!!
