Water pum directional flow?

My engine is a 327. I had the local repair shop install a serpentine belt/pully system because they said it would cure my "throwing" fan belts. By the time I drove it home it had overheated. I swear it looks like the water pump is turning the wrong direction. The brackets for mounting came off an S-10. Which way should my pump turn? Is a reverse flow pump available for my 327. Or do I need to scrap this and go back to the old brackets? Thanks in advance for your help.

I think that depending on the way the serpentine is routed on it's original application may be the root cause of the problem....I think the 4.3's are "reverse flow" in that the water pump runs in the opposite direction than a small block....You probably have a couple of options...I would check into a later model water pump...something off of the S10 might even work..or if you know a good machine shop that could remove and replace the impellar on the back of the pump with one that will flow in the right direction...sorry not much help.....

You are 100% correct, your pump is spinning the wrong way now.
You could go back to the old style V belts, and get deep groove pullys.
Or you could get a reverse flow pump. If you still have a short pump, your screwed becouse they don't make them (not OEM anyways, and never heard af an aftermarket one) However, if you have the long pump set up, then pick a small block surpentine driven car, and go to the parts store asking for a pump for that vehicle...92 Camaro RS with a 305 will do.

Thanks guys. I have the long pump so I'll probably get a reverse flow rather than go back to the old pullys.
