Question Front end rebuild question

I'm rebuilding a '72 front end to put on my '68 and I'm wondering how to tell if the dogbones need to be replaced. Is it as obvious as it would seem? The dogbones look good and tight but there are some radial grooves on the nuts where they pass through the A-arm. Is that normal or should they be replaced?

If the cleaned nuts rattle when shaking the dogbone, its time to buy new uppers AND lowers.
