C10 frame interchange

I presently have an 71 C10 LWB, 350 / 350, gotit at an steal. I have always favored SWB Chevy's. My question is this; I have an opportunity to get an 84 SWB for an steal. Can I put my cab onthe 84 frame? Thanks DL

cab swap

You should be able to use the frame, however, the cab mounts will most likely need to be re-worked as will other mounts. Measure everything!!!!!

Good luck!

Actually, the frame will work but it is going to take a lot of modifications made to your cab to get it to work!! PM Mudder67 and he will tell you what he did to make it work and he swapped to a 4x4 3/4 ton frame !! I know the Frames on a 73 - 87 SWB are longer then a SWB 67 - 72, no problems there. The cab mounts are different but the real problem is right underneath the cab on 73 - 87 trucks (where the Seat is) 45 degree drop becuase the Floor Board where the Seat Mounts to is raised compared to out 67 - 72 trucks!! What that drop in the frame causes is makes the cab Sit Higher then the Bed and Front Clip !! You would have to either cut the floor board on your cab to and build around that drop or Do a Body Lift!!

Trust me I thought about doing the swap and even before finding out the information, I bought a 74 SWB C10 Custom Deluxe (Rust Bucket) and am parting out all the salvagable parts on it, just so I can keep Suspension and Brakes off this truck !! So I am looking for a SWB frame for 68 - 72 C10 !!

It would probably be easier to shorten your long frame than adapt your body to a newer one. Shoot I would think 66 and back years would be a better donar.
