My first project
Well here are a few pics of something i picked up recently. This is my first project and I am new to this forum, so I will probably be asking a lot of easy and maybe dumb questions but Im excited to work on this with my two boys. I got the box ready to lift off already and going to get it blasted and primed with a weld-thru primer to bring it back and start doing some work on the box. The cab as you can see is junk. Needs new floor, corners, and rockers. Been looking hard to just find a different cab, but no luck yet. The box is completely straight.
Here is the ad I saw... I got it for $900. did I get jacked? or is it a good deal? 1972 GMC Truck Sierra 1500 long box Chevy Orange, 2 wheel drive 383 (350 stroker) motor (25K miles on motor) Edelbrock RPM performer intake manifold 474 lift Isky Cam Holley four-barrel carburetor (600 or 650 CFM, not sure) New radiator Rebuilt TH 350 transmission (25K miles on tranny, rebuilt by Nebraska Transmission) New brakes Working factory tachometer. $1350 OBO. It of course is gonna take some sweat and money, but I think you did all right on it. Welcome to the board - nobody here minds even simple questions.

Re: My first project
If the motor and tranny are truly rebuilt - then yeh you did ok.
did the Previous Owner give you the reciepts for the motor/tranny. Intake does look new though Factory Tach in the center hole of the dash??? - how about a picture? They are worth some $$$

Re: My first project
I think you did just fine. As long as there is no rust on the top half of the cab, then I think it's just fine. Obviously needs new rockers and probably new rear cab corners, possibly the cab supports underneath. Not an unreasonable amount of work.

Re: My first project
I crawled underneath. It definitely needs new corners, rockers. The cab supports dont look too bad, but will probably replace them while it is being done.

Re: My first project
Sounds good! Welcome to the forum!
Things start getting to be a pain in the ass when you need to do the roof area - rust around the windshield, etc. Looks like most of yours is from road salt under the truck.

Re: My first project
Well the box went in to get media blasted last night. Anxious to see what is revealed.
BTW, the tach is located in the center hole above the column. Is this something that is typically not found? Pardon the ignorance, but as I said, this is my first truck and just picking up on the history as I go. |

Re: My first project
Do you raise chinchillas? My old bracket car was sponsored by a chinchilla "ranch" (that always cracked me up) here in town.

Welcome, ask anything you need to know. Some of us(OK Me) can only help with the simple stuff. You can ask a question then search the FAQ's section for the info while waiting for a reply.Makes it easier to wait for someone to post the answer to your question if you're actually learning while you wait.

Re: My first project
The stroker engine alone is worth what you paid for the truck. Good score.
I'd just buy a better cab if it was me.
