Re: clutch replacement
Its not hard at all. Very briefly you must take the driveshaft out, transmission out, dustcover off, pressureplate & clutchdisk out, get flywheel ground & reassemble in reverse order. The hardest part is reassebmly because you have to line up the clutchdisk properly & tighten down the pressurepalte. Then you have to slide the trans in place while aligning the splines in the clutchdisk. Its all heavy & space is limited in there for reassembly. I bought 2 6" long bolts the same thread as the top two bolts holding the trans to the bellhousing & ground the heads off. You then thread them in by finger & then they become alignment guides for the trans to slide into place on. Very handy. A shop manual is the best reference here. It will walk you through it. I'm all about the 11" & 12" clutches but it is a personal choice. If you have any questions, dont hesitae to ask. I have attached a link on the subject below:
here is an oldie but a goodie: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=179528

Re: clutch replacement
It could be done in an afternoon if you have everything there & ready, but I took my flywheel to be ground & I also took the pressureplate, clutch disk & throwout bearing to my local clutch shop so that I got the correct parts. I changed the rearmain seal too while I was there & that took more time. Cleanliness is important on reassembly - lots of brakecleaner on the pressureplate & flywheel & try to avoid fingerprints on the clutchdisk itself. put the tranny into neutral before pulling it apart (important), & if they are bad, get new bushings for where the rods attach to the levers on the trans-this made a huge improvement in shifting quality. I think Mr. Gasket has good aluminum ones. & put a new boot on the clutchlever where it goes through the bellhousing-they are always rotten! A haynes manual is a good idea.
