Ram horn manifold

My exhaust manifold is cracked. Does anyone sell a heavy duty or beefed up one? I've done some searching on this board, but most of the info I've found is dated. I need one for the passenger side. That Eb__ store on the internet has them for 27 bucks + shipping, but are they any good for just a weekend cruiser? What have you had any luck with? I want to stick with the ram horns. I hear they flow pretty good and I'm not ready to invest in a full exhaust system yet.

Re: Ram horn manifold

Hey Yell'r.

I had the same problem and ordered a manifold from LMC. It fit well, and works fine, but it is does not visibly match the GM part. It also has a big CHINA cast right on the side.

I'd look around it junk yards if I could do it over again.

Do yours go straight down or bend slightly back?

Re: Ram horn manifold

Mine bend back. I just need one for the passenger side. I would rather not buy a cheap one from some Asian country.

Re: Ram horn manifold

I just bought a new one from Summit for the passenger side - by the time you get a junkyard one sandblasted, buy another gasket, check for cracks, etc, for me it was easier to buy the whole thing ready to bolt on, and I know (at least it should) be good. Hundred bucks. To mee it's worth the extra money in the time saved.

Re: Ram horn manifold

I might have to go that route, unless someone on the board has one. I don't think the yards around here keep old rusted trucks. I'll take another look now that the weather is better.

Re: Ram horn manifold

I have a new one being delivered today from 1AAuto.com. I'll let you know how it looks tonight. I getting the 2 1/2 in outlet. They get about $96 including shipping. E Bay has the best prices but some of them might need work. I bought a reproduction one just to not have to do all that. Its probably made in China also. We will see.

I got the one from 1AAuto myself. No complaints here, looked pretty good to me. Just had to seal up the air injector lines. Put loctite on the threaded plugs, and then jbwelded over the top of the plug, just to hide it. Everyone told me the jbweld would fall off due to the heat, but 2 years later, it's still hanging in there.

Mine came with studs, but they were in a bag.

Re: Ram horn manifold

My manifold came in and it looks good. I compared it to my GM manifold and it matches up perfectly. It has a smoother finish so it would never fool any one at a ncrs vette judging but for my truck it looks like it will be fine. It did not come with studs so I'm gonna have to get them. I was thinking of buying the studs, gaskets and stud nuts from a vette site, anybody have any ideas where to get them cheaper? The "china" marking is about to meet MR. Grinder.

Re: Ram horn manifold

I just bought a used one off of ebay. Says it was off of a 60s vette with 2" outlet. Could be a mistake on my part. He said it didn't have any cracks. I'll be watching here to check what you found out about studs. I read here somewhere that you dont need a gasket for these manifolds.

I don't think the vette ones have the curved outlet. See WorkinLonghorn's pic.

Re: Ram horn manifold

That's what I've been told, but the guy had 3 manifolds listed as vette and only one of them was straight. I took the other 2. They look like they are probably off of something else. The left one has an alternator mount that I'll have to cut off to use.

Re: Ram horn manifold

The Vette manifolds do have a straight outlet. That will work for me cause I have a K10. I wanted the 2 1/2 inch outlet to match the one I already had. I'm going to cut the alternator mount off mine also. Another thing I had to buy was the proper bracket set from Vintage Air for my compressor. I found manifold outlet studs and nuts at Advance for $3.18 a side.
