New to Site / Check out Pics of purchase / Suspension Swap for 66 fleetside

Hello all,
I have a 66 Chevy pickup I purchased from a friend for $600 dollars. He just lost interest in it which is why he left it in a field for six years. It came with no motor, transmission, or fuel tank. I wanted to see what I had so I used the power washer and then the buffer with a little polishing compound and then some wax. She cleaned up pretty good I think. I also sanded down the wood bed, still not the greatest, and then put some stain on it to preserve the wood until I paint it next year. Also put on paint of the separator steel between the wood.

Here is my question. I have a 83 suburban as a donor vehicle. I want to know if I take the spindles, control arms, springs, disk brakes, calipers, master cylinder, power booster, proportioning valve etc will this work on my 66 Chevy? I have yet to find where it says this will not work. I need to measure the rear axle, length wise, also from the donor to see if its the same size as my stock rear end. That way I can convert completely to disk brakes and a 5 bolt vice 6 bolt.

I'm also planning on taking the 400 automatic transmission from the suburban and putting that behind a a re-manufactured 350. I want to drive air conditioning as Texas can be crazy hot in the summer. Its a budget build so I'm utilizing what I have until later on. Input please......great site!

Thats FREAKIN nice for what you got it for! Does it have the title cause it seems to good to be true. Also use everything you can from the sub. These things have plenty of room in the engine compartment so motor brackets (ac brackets) and trans will work.LOOKS GOOD ! I will give you 700 for it I am almost positive that you can swap the front cross member with everything on it over to you 66. But kinda remember up 78 being a bolt on. Some one will maybe come and answer. Check up to what year the 67-72 guys are doing , its the exact same frame set-up.

Yes it has a clear title. I actually had to pester him to sell it even though he wasn't doing anything with it. If he wasn't my bro of many years I'm sure I would of paid a few more dollars to get it. I'm gonna make her my daily driver with AC. Thanks...

Looks Good!!!! Can't beat the price. Buffed out nice! I did that with a Blue Oval ( we can't say the "F" word here) a few years back, bought it for 300 buffed it out, traded it for a chevy two weeks later. Man I miss that chevy! LOL - Good Luck and keep us posted. Jerry

GREAT FIND!!!

To answer your question: I know you can swap the entire front crossmember, spindle to spindle, (did this on mine), you can also swap the rearend complete, you will have to relocate the trailing arm brackets, the rear axle is like 1/2" to 3/4" wider on each side, not a problem for a fleetside, not to bad for a stepside. ( I swapped in a 12 bolt, 3.73 posi), the booster, proportioning valve etc, will work too. ( I used) and the complete powersteering setup (you will need a REZ, CPP or other bracket kit for the PS).

Lots of great people on here, you will get your answers, Best wishes with the new toy, keeping posting pictures through the build.
