changing dizzy
I have a chance to get a nice pro billit msd hei out of a wreck for cheap.
I have never actually pulled a dist. and put in a new one, have done rotor and cap and all that stuff. wondering if anyone had a step by step on it and any gaskets I should change. This will just be hei for hei swap. Thanks

just take the bolt out & pull up. Its a basic swap. I did have to pull the cap off of mine to get it all the way out though. Id drop a new gasket on the new one just to be safe too...
Forgot to add, turn the motor over until the rotor is pointed staight ahead & relplace the new one the same way. If you cant get the rotor in the same place when the distributor drops all the way down, just turn it back a bit & have someone bump the switch while you hold it. It should pull right down. Ok corn just to confirm. My rotor is pointing foward at carb and a little to the right of number 8 plug wire. So I need to drop in new dizzy so rotor is pointed same place foward. And tighten it down so it is near same place right of number 8. correct? That should get me started and then retime it.
Do I have it right?

Yep, make sure its in the same place but if its not seated on the intake it will move when you turn the motor over. That make sense? Just make sure its down all the way & pointed in the same place, you should be good to go...
I forgot to add, if it doesnt drop right in, sometimes you have to turn it counter clockwise a bit & as it wiggles down into place it lines itself up. If you cant get it let us know, we will try the next step then... Last edited by corn; 05-18-2007 at 07:40 PM. |

ok got it I think I was off by one tooth because I had to turn it alittle to get it timed right but I think it is good to go seems to run fine.
