Value of a 78
My Grandfather in-law probablly can't get his license renewed again, so he's looking to sell his 78. This is NOT a for sale ad, I just want to make sure he doesn't get took. He's got a list of buyers already.
Here's what I know...I can get pics later if it would help He's an old rancher, and this was his "goin' to town" truck. 1978 camper special 3/4 ton long bed 350/350 41,000 original miles!!! I used this truck a few years ago to move, and thought it felt more solid then my 98 I had at the time. Just give me an idea or a range for what he should expect. Thanks

Re: Value of a 78
Need more info. 41,000 miles is awesome, but not if it hit 41,000 miles 20 years ago and has been sitting in the barn since.
Is it all original? If not, what has changed? What other options are on it? Colors? Interior color? What is the timeline for a sale? That's the big question... If he can wait, I would settle for no less than 10000 assuming the truck is mostly original, in GREAT shape, and with a desirable paint scheme and option set. If he is willin to SIT on it, he could find that buyer for 12-15k. I would set the price high and see what happens... ask 16,900 and list it on hemmings.com as well as a few other collector sites. Provide as much information and quality photography as possible in the ad. This of course assuming stellar and mostly original condition.... I purchased my 78 with 17,900 miles on it last January, if you want the numbers PM me....

Re: Value of a 78
I'll try and get some pics maybe this weekend. I would love to have this truck but I already have my 67 and a 72 Chevelle that need my attention. I kind of half wonder if he isn't trying to get me to bite. He's got a real old dodge that I'm surprised can even still go down the road that he tried to give me just before I bought my 67. He said it would be fine for parts store runs and trips to the dump. It was his actual farm truck. You gotta wrestle all the black widows out of it before driving it.
The 78 is REALLY a great truck. I don't think it's quite a $10,000 truck. But it is all original. It's got the original paint. That copper brown/tan 2-tone that chevy had. Like I said, I'll go out and visit and snap a pic or two this weekend. He was just asking if I could find out about what it's worth. Thanks guys,

Re: Value of a 78
A buddy of mine just bought a LWB 1/2 ton '86 with 30k miles for $2500. The truck is in great shape other than the rubber. I would say your truck is worth twice that given the miles, year, described condition. Post a few pics.
