Storage tips for a 70 GMC?
So with the new baby and family obligations I have come to realize I need to put off my project for a while. What suggestions do you have for storage?
Unfortunately It wont fit in the garage so I'll have to store it outside. The cab is already shot so the rust demons will get their way with it (Florida). Tarping it is a no-no so I've heard? The engine isn't running and I have the carb, water pump, and hoses off. Fuel lines are plugged, fuel is about 3/4 full in the tank. The radiator is removed also. Is there anything I should do to keep the block from rusting from the inside out? Should I put the cooling system back together and fill with antifreeze? I guess I can siphon the gas and fill up the wifes car. The tires aren't anything special so I'm not worried about getting flat spots etc. Any tips would be great. Thanks. |

how long will it be sitting?
There's plenty you can do to it without spending much money. |

Re: Storage tips for a 70 GMC?
actually i'd get gas stabilizer and fill the tank up , if you empty it it will rust inside/ id also take a squirt can and squirt oil inside each cylinder// as far as the exterior rusting well good luck i've found it to be a difficult process// you might get a case of gibbs oil(about $110) and spray the whole exterior and continue to spray it every 3 months or so . that would give you a chance// the last option you have is to sell it off before you get classed as one of those "i'm gunna restore it sumday" types that sumday never comes and it rusts to nothing
florida is a very bad place to try and let something sit outside waiting for attention

Quote:
It needs a new cab body, carb, fuel pump, water pump, alt bracket, ps bracket, plug wires, th400 kick-down,, the list goes on from there. Nothing crazy (besides the cab) but I just don't have the funds. |
