What are you using for an overflow bottle?

Hey all, I'll be installing a Vintage Air kit soon and also adding my tranny cooler I've had for like a year, and while I'm at it, I need to add an overflow bottle too. Space is kind of limited and my spout is on the passenger side... so with all the A/C stuff on the front of the core support on the PS and the tranny cooler on the DS, what are y'all using for an overflow bottle? Pics, $, and where you got it would be great.

you can hang the bottle or can on the drivers side radiator support next to the radiator, just run a hose along the bottom of the radiator to the other side. Thats the way I have seen some done and thats the where I'm putting mine. I have a pic but I wont be home till saturday to post it.

Not sure that it even works but this is where mine is and it's all hooked up. My radiator doesn't like being full.

Yeah, I think I've read the radiators in these trucks are only happy when they're 2 or 3 inches full from the top.

I got that from a vendor at a show but I'm sure you can find them online somewhere. Look for billet stuff.

Any radiator without an overflow can not be fill to the top. The coolant needs somewhere to expand to, so you have to have an air gap.
With a closed system the reservoir is where the coolant expands to and as the engine cools it is drawn back in to the radiator.
Its doesn’t matter where you mount it as long as the coolant can flow freely threw the hose. It can be mounted higher or lower then the radiator as close and as far away as you want.

My favorite, a stock 67-72 washer bottle. So I have 1 mounted on each fender. Nice & symmetrical & original appearing.

This is one I got with a parts truck and I think I am going to use it when the time comes. I didn't even know what it was off of until I asked on here

I was told it came from an older chevy big truck c-50 or something like that so you may be able to find one cheap.

I'm just going to paint to match the scheme of the truck. I guess I will figure out that when the time comes also

I HAD a good one, and a bracket, but I lost the stupid thing. So, the washer bottle plastic can hold up to the high temps of the radiator water/coolant?

Mine too, I installed a brass fitting 1 inch from the bottom on the back side and plumbed it that way.
I don't know about the repro ones, but my 35-ish year old one is holding up fine to the heat.

You can't get these good overflow caps any more but the WS washer cap works OK. You just have to put a piece of small hose inside one end of the overflow hose to make up for the two different sizes.

So how would you hook up a overflow bottle to the original radiator?

i had planned to do the washer fluid bottle as advertised above. however, if you want a billet one like shown above, Summit Racing and several other vendors carry them.

Another "Washer Bottle" convert... These are from pic's of my old 72 Burb... I scrounged the u pull it yards until I found a good cap. Got one off an early 80's Caddy...

I thought about using an absinth bottle! The green coolant would look right at home in there. I just can't talk myself in to finishing the rest of the bottle !!!

I am running a set like Mudder has pictured above. One is for overflow and the other is for washer fluid.

I wanted them to blend in rather than stand out so Roger at Stoked Out Specialties built a cool mounting bracket to install them on the back of the core support.

Here they are being mocked up. The bracket is in the bottom pic.

To help them blend in and prevent having to polish them we panted the tank black, and left the lids polished. There are lots of suppliers for these tanks. You can find them in polished aluminium or stainless.

Nothing fancy or chrome but this is what I used from Summitt. I did'nt have any room inside either and it works well on the outside of the frame. I don't know how well it would work on a truck not lifted.

I bought a small overflow tank out of a late model car, and mounted it below the battery. Out of sight. We fabbed some brackets from Al. to span between the 2 rectangular uprights on the core support and painted the entire unit black. The hose runs near its normal route but turns and goes under the battery.
