vortec heads q?

will the vortec heads off of a new truck work on my 350? I see lots of them off of teh new 5.3 Ls and was wondering if tehy will fit...

Nope - the Vortecs in the new style of trucks (the Silverado bodystyle, 1998 and newer) are a completely different engine. The 4.8, 5.3, and 6.0 V8's are all based off of the LS1/LS6 found in the 1997 and newer Corvettes, and 1998-2002 F-Bodies. Completely different block, not even close.

but the ones off of Vortec 5.7s from the pre-99 trucks will fit, but require a new intake manifold... or drill/tap the heads...

good design... almost as good as an LT1...

Yup, I've got them on my truck. They rock hard, heh. You can't put LT1 heads on a GenI block, though (reverse coolant flow) and they outflow the far more expensive aluminum L98 heads if you want to stick all GM.

yeah, I know... if the LT1 heads would fit I'd be out right now prying them off of a Camaro... *lol*

oh, I should have mentioned valve covers... you'll need center bolt valve covers with Vortec heads, I think...

Yep, you'll need centerbolt valvecovers (which are much better than the original ones imo) and you also can't use the factory A/C bracket that goes to the intake manifold.

I still haven't figured out how I'm going to mount the A/C once I get headers, though. Right now, it's mostly on the exhaust manifold mount.

alan grove has the a/c brackets that work with vortec heads

also if you want a big cam go with lt4 valve springs the stock can go up to .450 lift and you do need a n intake for them and i love my vortecs

...LT4 valvesprings fit? That's probably a lot cheaper than getting the heads machined for stock-size springs, too...

no they do have to be machined but you get a set with the springs already installed from sdpc2000.com

Eh? Is it an option or do they do it to all of them? I got my Vortec head kit from SDPC...great deal, I should add...I know I didn't specify any stronger springs, so my guess is I don't...but that's cool that LT4 ones fit!

thats what pissed me off they started offering the upgrade a week after i got mine and yes they still offer it for 900 or just the springs for 250 i think. they also offer upgraded heads and edlbrock air gap intake for a little over 1000

i'm running a sanden compressor (cuz the A6 stock ones suck and they drag down your motor bad) on the driver's side. they make em for both sides. they come with all the spacers n stuff
