Progress: Vintage Air & Re-Wire

Progress continues....slowly but surely!

Vintage air is partially installed and no major hickups yet with the exception of having to modify the rear mounting brackets and one of the condensor brackets as well. I also decided to paint the firewall and fan cover to match the truck. Got a good deal on it last year up at Hot August Nights...seems it was around $750 (without compressor and bracket).

This wiring thing is VERY time consuming. The harness is an EZ Wiring kit and is working out just fine......haven't burnt anything up yet!! I only paid $125 for it at a swap meet a year back or so. All exterior lighting is functional and it actually starts with the key now!

One regret I have is not filling all the holes in the firewall.....gonna have quite a few left that I will have to plug....anyone have any good ideas on attractive ways to plug em?

Re: Progress: Vintage Air & Re-Wire

Did you slide your motor forward? It looks as if you have gained a few inched behind the distributor? Everything looks great.

Re: Progress: Vintage Air & Re-Wire

ksbeatty:

The motor is in the standard V8 location. I think some guys will use the straight 6 mounting position which shoves the motor a few inches closer to the firewall.

Thanks.

it looks great so far, love the color to, what is it exactly if you dont mind me asking?

FWIW, my engine sits the same distance from the firewall(V8)

Re: Progress: Vintage Air & Re-Wire

SactoJim As far as I know I have the stock location and I site right up against the firewall with the distributor. Since I am putting in a 700r4 i am going to slide it forward a little. I wonder if 2 to 4wd makes a difference?

Re: Progress: Vintage Air & Re-Wire

ksbeatty: I'm just about 100% sure mine is in the stock location and I'm not real "up" on the different mounting locations for the V8, but I certainly have seen V8's sitting back towards the firewall more. I'm sure if you post a new question, someone will know.

Greasemonkey72: color is 2000 Corvette Bright Blue Met.

Thanks!
